Is it really UPS policy to leave packages in front of the door at an apt complex???

Unbelievable. I ordered a Christmas present from Amazon.com and they sent it UPS and it was delivered two days ago. They left it in front of my door. In an apartment building. At Christmastime.

How fucking stupid can these people be??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

But no, they have to require a signature in person and only deliver in the afternoon when I and most people are, you know, WORKING.

Why can't they run a 24-hour service?

4. Do you know how many packages would be backed up if they didn't?

At my apartment complex, they will leave it with the office in a locked location where you still have to sign for it. Maybe you should talk to your complex?

By the way, was the package stolen?

the office won't sign for anything. they just leave it in front of the door, where it sits and sits unattended until someone walks by and swipes it. pth pth pth! argh!

5. They will do the same at a private home

if you're not there. That why I get my packages sent to the office. So far I've gotten away with it, and that includes headers, catalytic converter, and muffler/exhaust system for a car. I hate the idea of valuables being left in front of the door.

6. It shouldn't be

I'm in an apt too and my UPS delivery guy always knocks on the door. If I'm not home he leaves my packages at the office and puts a note on my door. I have had bad experiences with the FedEx deliveries though. Packages will be left right outside my door which my apt manager said should never happen. The worst though was when my fedex package was left right outside of someone else's apt door. :eyes: Thankfully I have honest neighbors.

8. Here's what they told me about it...

I asked about this issue at the place I send packages, which is an authorized pickup location for UPS. The guy there, who doesn't work for UPS but seems to know the UPS rule book by heart, told me it is "up to the discretion of the driver" whether to leave the package unattended or not. The only way to guarantee that the package will not be left unattended is to get one of the value-added services such as "Signature Required Delivery Confirmation" which increases the cost a little, but prevents the driver from just leaving the package unattended. This is what they told me, anyway.
