Vandals Run Over Singing Santa, Steal Baby Jesus

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. --Paula Barstow's singing Santa stopped singing after holiday vandals pulled out his power cord and ran over his head. Baby Jesus was literally cut out of the Shalimar Presbyterian Church's wooden Nativity display.

"I hear all the time that Jesus has been taken out of everything and now he's been taken out of his manger," church elder Linda Shealy told the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Jesus and the singing Santa were apparent victims of a holiday crime spree.

Barstow said Santa was in his usual spot on her driveway Tuesday night. She awoke Wednesday and found him mowed down.

"They had to come all the way in and just run him over, back and forth," said Barstow, who cried as she described the damage.

Santa "was a neat old guy," she said. He also waved and shouted "Merry Christmas."

Shealy discovered the missing baby Jesus on Tuesday.

Her husband, George, helped assemble the Nativity scene.

"People should be taught not to steal (anything), but don't take the baby Jesus for crying out loud," he said.
