Discrepancies between CBS's "Rudolph" and the Bible's explained (CBS 8PM tonight)
As you know tonight is the annual airing of the 1964 claymation treatment of the gospel's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer story.

You may receive the normal e-mails protesting the liberal interpretation by directors Kizo Nagashima and Larry Roemer (produced by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr.) Just a heads up.

The depiction of the Abominable Snowman as "against Christmas" is an attack on patriarchal Christian societal teachings. Likewise his carnivorous tendencies serve to paint a negative light on meat eating particularly baby reindeer eating. Notice that he prefers "pork"-see producer credits

According to the scriptures Hermey was not THAT gay.

Okay Yukon Cornelius was but he was Canadian probably French Canadian.

The scriptures in no way promoted the pre-marital flirting (which leads to you know what) between Clarice and Rudolph.

The idea that a secular figure such as Santa Claus could "cancel Christmas" is a direct affront to God on his son's birthday. It is important to note that this whole "non conformity" interpretation was initiated the same year that the Beatles first appeared on TV in the United States...a coincidence?

The following appears in no way or no where in the Bible:
Yukon Cornelius: Whoa. Whoa. Unmush, will ya?

It is commonly accepted knowledge that the "great snowstorm" was a warning from God to all of the sinful behaviour displayed in this story and to imply that a genetic freak could over ride God's will is blasphemous.

If you can offer any talking points to refute this artificial turf letter please do.

1. No but in the Song of Solomon it does say "Clarice, with her supple
coat and tempting eyes..." So clearly she has it coming to her.

It also mentions something in there about Santa's slaves. Happy little buggers.

4. There are no islands in the Bible
Many people have determined that this was a marketing ploy on behalf of one of the producers wife's travel agency.

Watching it this year though. On the night when Rudolph decides to take off on his own in order to avoid endagering his friends, he leaves the frigging door open.
In the middle of winter.
I figure the real story is that they died of hypothermia that night.

11. There are other "biblical" teachings in "Rudolph" such as the lines,
"This is man's work!" when Donner tells his wife (Rudolph'd mother) that she cannot go with him to look for Rudolph.

Another one occurs when they have all just been rescued by Yukon Cornelius, and they declare they need "to get the women back to Christmastown."

Yep, let's of ancient attitudes going on here.

15. On the contrary
Right after the line "this is man's work", what happens? The women ignore the admonsihment and set right on out to do what they intended. Very progressive message if you ask me.

12. I was dismayed to see that Santa was a big jerk throughout until the day
came when he could "use" Rudolph, then he was all about how great Rudy was even tho he was a misfit. I expect after Christmas Rudy was in the souplines again.

16. The language too.
"You'd best pull my motherfucking sleigh, Rudolf, or I'll rip your fucking head off and shit down your neck!" really loses it's power if half the words are bleeped over.

17. Are we talking about Rudolph according to the Gospel of St. Matthew or according to Revelations?
In the Gospels, yes, Rudolph represents the purity of Christmas:

"And from the East came seven wise men, yea, for unto seven times seven wise men, riding upon giraffes, and asses, and beasts of the field. But Batshubua of Gideon came unto the manger astride a reindeer to praise the child, son of Mary, daughter of Abraham, who wast Virgin and of Virgin born, Allelueaia"

But in the Revelations of St John the Divine, it's a very different story:

"...and upon the third trumpet blast, a mighty beast appeared, in its presense like a mighty sepharim. Its horns were as the sycamore tree in winter and its nose begloweth as a dreadful fire of Gehenna, its toes snarled and hairy, but untrimmed, like a camel's. And did the fourth trumpet stike and an Angel of Perdition appeareth, wearing a suit of red and giving presents to the nations and laughing in evil. Then the beast of the glowing nose drew the Angel of Dread unto the heavens in his chariot, like a black helicopter, and a pestilence of gold and wickedness smote the malls and the heralds of the nations declared war and famine. Amen."

Of course I'm not a Biblical scholar, so I don't know what any of this means.
