9-Foot, 500 Pound Shark Washes Ashore In Texas

<snip>

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Beachgoers in Corpus Christi, Texas were in for a big surprise this week when a large shark washed up on shore.

Biologists said they don't know why the nine-foot long Mako shark ended up on shore. They said the shark had died recently, but did not have any visible wounds.

The 500-pound shark was taken to a Texas A&M University lab for tests.

1. Probably looking for a job with the Bush Family.
I carry out orders without question, lack humanity, and like people!

2. Probably got too close to one of the "dead zones"
in the gulf, and either suffocated or absorbed toxins. x(

4. there are no dead zones near here
It was probably cold shock that killed it. The water temp in the bays is colder than the Gulf this time of year. And it has dropped precipitously lately because of a couple of strong cold fronts. Make sharks typically live in the Gulf and are not adapted to extreme water temp. changes.

3. Right across from my office
I never saw it though until I saw the pictures on the news. Interestingly an angler reported hooking into what he estimated as a 10 foot mako a week or so ago during one of our surveys. Makes me wonder if it was the same shark. People always think the one that got away is bigger than it actually is.

6. Estimating 10' for a 9' shark would be a pretty honest, accurate angler
I think if I encountered a 9' shark, I'd imagine it to be 15' minimum...
