I went to the county hospital to pick up my hearing aids today |
|
PFLAG paid for 100.00 of the repairs. I used my b-day money to pay the balance, which was 150.00. 250.00 total.
What was weird was when I went to the cashier with my PFLAG check the cashier automatically assumed that I didn't have the rest of the money and called her supervisor. I didn't realize what the issue was until the supervisor arrived and said, "We can't let you have the hearing aids until you pay the 150.00 balance.", I asked, "Do you take visa?" The supervisor immediatly dissapeared!
It was a county hospital and I really felt that fact when they assumed that I didn't have the money. It made me feel a little un-easy.

1. It's sad but probably true that they deal with many who can't afford to pay. |

The clerk learned something today --never assume.

2. She didn't even give me a chance to pay |
|
I handed her my paperwork and she picked up the phone to call her supervisor.

3. Here's hoping the supervisor corrected her out after you left. |

It does sound awkward. If it makes you feel any better, my dentist's office assistant today tried to collect on the balance for a procedure and I explained that I had paid it during the last visit --- she was used to people waiting until after the procedure and hadn't even checked the record.

5. That was a very rude assumption on her part. |

I'm sorry that happened to you.
A few years ago, my husband and I were shopping for a new bedroom set. We had our then toddler and infant with us, and I suppose we looked haggard. My husband was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. When we inquired about the bedroom sets, the first words out of the saleman's mouth were, "Is your credit good at all?"
I said, "Yes, our credit is fine. We were planning on paying cash, though."
We've never been back there.
