Do you have friends who are "martyrs"?
Year after year (sometimes) they will go on and on about what they don't like, or how they hate their job/husband/place of residence but WON'T EVEN TRY TO CHANGE THEIR SITUATIONS!!!!!!

Are friends supposed to be so supportive all the time? Mind you, they are all so "independent" and in control of their lives so if they wanted to make a change they would :eyes: or so they say......

When you hear the same complaint time after time again it's annoying......

1. No, I don't. After enough of that, they're not my friends anymore.
Life is too short to spend any of it listening to that.

3. Martyrs Make Themselves Good By Comparing Themselves To
whatever.

My wife is an excellent example

she is a martyr- long suffering- put up with me etc.

She is the silent long suffering type who doesn't say anything and just "suffers" I guess

That's why I moved down the hall last week.

Oh well, martyrdom is a manipulation, not an authentic behavior to relate to.

4. Yes, I have one close friend like that
We met at my previous job. It was not a good atmosphere and after a year I left and got a much better job, but she is still there and never stops telling me how awful it still is. What can I say? I KNOW it is awful, that is why I left. I feel so bad for her, but find myself impatient with her complaining - though I would never say so. She is a very sweet person.

usually are very sweet people, but inside full of anger from what I have experienced.

6. Same situation here....
They are making her life miserable in that section ( I know, because I was there myself, WAY too long) yet suggestions to apply for another job in our office are met with excuses.

I've been stuck, really stuck so I can understand that feeling of being "trapped", but you have to make an effort to "un-trap" yourself. To be really happy you really have to make an effort. :(

8. My friends are all college dropout drunks...
They will punch you in the balls when you aren't looking.. But, they will buy you a slice of pizza when you are broke. We play poker and read books. I'm happy.
