On love and loss...
...and finding joy. Today was a special day for me. My youngest son, aged 19 got married this afternoon. It was also a day of remembrance, because this would have been my mother's 73rd birthday.

I was originally hesitant about my son and his wife picking this day for their big day. But the more I thought about it, two distinct notions occurred to me. 1. It gives the day a happy memory, and 2. My mother would have been tickled pink because they picked her birthday for their wedding day.

So double tears for a little while, but I know my mom is smiling down on them this evening.

Mazel tov!

1. Congratulations and sympathies
19 is certainly young to get married--I wish them every joy together. I hope the happy memories can help heal the ache from the painful ones.

Mazel tov, dear.

It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

8. "all the good and bad things in the world, so close together"
This is a quote from a movie, one of my favorites, and I had to think about it a lot to really understand it.

But it's so true.

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he get to be so tall?

Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

11. I can understand those feelings
Last June my daughter got married. One week prior to that, my oldest sister died. It was a strange conflict of feelings, joy and sadness, beginnings and endings. The eternal story of life, really.

Congratulations to you on your son's wedding. :hi:
