So, I just got back from seeing the Tenacious D movie, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. |

They just didn't rock that hard.
I went in with high hopes- I thought I was gonna pay my $9.50 and they were gonna treat me to some hardcore, tasty jams, like they used to. Back in the day, I'd toke up a nice bowl, turn on the D and sit back in the pleasure of having my brains painted on the back wall with pure, unadulterated, sex-crazed rock and roll. But, from what I heard tonight, I think they might have lost a step or two.
It just wasn't the same- it's as if they just don't have "it" anymore. I dunno, maybe they're not really feeling it deep down in their soul. Like, when they went up against Satan in a rock-off at the end, they built me up so much, I was expecting them to blow that bastard away with the nastiest, most brutal ever-loving guitar riff of all time. But they didn't.
Oh, they rocked. They rocked hard. Their usual intensity just wasn't there, though. You could see it in their eyes.
I dunno. I love the D, but they're just not what they used to be.

My impression was that they rocked as hard as ever. They were working extra-hard at lampooning the institution, though, and unless one is in the mood for that mix, I could see how that would undercut the whole shebang.
