1. tins of oily fish
a chicken, beef bones from the butcher... these 'dog foods' are the crap parts
that humans won't eat. You can't go wrong by feeding a young pup proper food
whilst it is doubling in size, as the bulk of body mass the animal is growing
will be affected by cancers or whatever is in the extra chemicals in the food,
and you extend its life by giving it a natural diet during that period.

Other things for a growing pup: whole cow milk, yoghurt, carrots.

2. The 2nd one is absolute shit.
Primarially corn and not meat, preservatives, artificial coloring.

Although, if you really want to feed it the right diet (if I remember correctly, you have chiahauas, so it won't be too pricey) feed them a raw diet. Look up BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food).

3. I found a great type of food that comes dry Dr Harvey...check this out
Requires some preparation, but don’t worry, it’s not preparing Thanksgiving dinner for your dog every night. In fact, Canine Health only takes 8 minutes, and it only requires boiling water, and a little commitment. But, what a difference it will make in your dog’s life.

Ingredients: Organic Brown Rice Flakes, Organic Kamut Flakes, Organic Spelt Flakes, Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Barley Flakes, Organic Triticale Flakes, Sweet Potatoes*, Carrots*, Potatoes*, Zucchini*, Peas**, Green Beans*, Beets*, Broccoli*, Parsley Leaf, Lecithin Granules, Garlic Granules, Bee Pollen Granules, Nutritional Yeast Flakes, Alfalfa Leaf, Rose Hips*, Red Clover Blossoms*, Oat Straw*, Flax Seed Meal*, Papaya Leaf*, Rosemary Leaf*, Dandelion Root*, Peppermint Leaf*, Ginger Root*, Spirulina*, Fenugreek*, Basil Leaf, Fennel Seed.

*Dehydrated
**Freeze Dried

The only reason I don't use it is because I travel quite a bit and it is very inconvenient.

7. Dogs need meat.

There's no protein in that mix. Don't feed this to your dog.

8. You cook and add the meat. That's part of the prep.

10. Okay then. But you would still be better off then just cooking the meat
and adding some type of vegetable like carrots.

But really, a dog should eat raw meat.

And there's no preparation involved.

11. True but I travel so much. When I take the kids raw meat isn't something
I can often grab and feed.

or freeze dried chicken bits, etc.

Most pet stores carry it.

5. Wow, don't use #2.
Have you considered California Natural? We use
this one and we've been pretty happy with it.

Good luck--hope you find what you need!

I'm glad to hear that you're taking the time to think carefully about it.
