What's the best method or product for dusting?
Assuming you do such a thing, what do you find to be the most effective means of dusting around the home? I find that I'm actually noticing dust more these days, and it's starting to bug me. Thoughts?

2. I like using canned air spray, then vacuuming up the dust from the floor.
My ex hated me for it, but worked on fragile items.

3. A slightly damp cloth works well
Plus, since it can be washed and reused, it's environmentally friendly. :hi:

4. Leaf blower...
Open up all the windows and doors and let 'er rip! I suggest using an electric leaf blower over the stinky and noisy gas varieties.

5. Use cloths that pick up the dust rather than just kick it around.
Dustcloths, whether flannel or synthetic, or lambswool dusters work well and can be laundered and reused for years (or as another poster mentioned, use the disposal Swiffer types.)

Don't use feather dusters, and don't try to vacuum it all away. Both will do a half-baked job.

If you notice more dust in the winter and have a forced hot air heating system, clean the filters and schedule a cleaning about once per month in the heating season. Most of them can be cleaned with a thorough vacuuming, but some are designed to be rinsed with water. Keeping them clean means that the filters collect the dust rather than dispersing it.

Vaccuum carpets and rugs frequently and use a dust mop on wooden floors. In general, dusting is easier if you do it on a regular basis (say once a month if you have no pets, once a week if you do.)

Also, if you have sunny windows without drapes or curtains, you will notice more dust accumulation than if the windows had some coverings.

10. A hairdryer and an extension cord.
I'm not kidding, it's the home equivalent of a leaf blower. It's fast and effective. You blow all the dust off your cabinets, furnishings and curios, then vacuum it up off the floor. Dust gone.

In terms of actual products that I find useful, a feather duster or a swiffer duster and a spray can of Endust. They're magical.

11. You're really wasting your time with the hairdryer
all you are doing is lifting the dust into the air, then it settles right back down. I had the same problem when I used to reverse the hose on the vacuum cleaner to blow the dust away. You really need the volume of air the leaf blower provides to blow the dust completely outside where it can settle at its own leisure.

14. The soft brush attachment for your vaccuum!
That way the dust gets sucked into the machine, not just moved from one place to another.
