1. It stayed open longer this time before crashing
Honestly, is it possible to just have too much shit in a folder?

2. Or data getting corrupted
It's happened to me on the PC before, never on the Mac. The last time really irked me because I had actual important stuff in there. I ended up logging in to the PC via the remote console on the Mac and getting the files off it that way.

4. What exactly happens if I may ask?
I had a problem similar to this the other day; had to do with the upgrade I did on my bittorrent and the files not matching; not sure why. I managed to move everything out of the folder, but I had to trash all the torrents except one.

5. Every time I go in
The whole "Windows explorer encountered an error" thing comes up. Sometimes it takes a minute and I can look around the folder just fine before the error occurs.

Also, I don't get any errors when I access the same folder on my laptop. :wtf:

6. Disable thumbnail view if you're using it.

7. I so win
I think it was the sheer number of avi files littering the folder that did it. I finally organized my fansub collection.

8. If you find yourself with trouble in the future
remember you can always do it the old fashioned way too: Start-->Run...-->"cmd.exe"

and then:

c:\>cd <directory>
c:\>dir
c:\>copy <file from> <file to>
c:\>move <file from> <file to>
c:\>del <file to delete>

etc, etc, etc.

The old ways still work, and they can still be useful to know. :)
