So, after last night in the ER, I have pneumonia!

It hit me like a ton of bricks on wednesday. While at work, in a matter of two hours, I started shaking with chills, hot with fever and incredibly tired. Then the coughing started. At first, it was dry. Fever got progressively worse. Finally, last night my husband and I decided to go to the ER, primarily because my fever was not improving and I just started a job... which brings me to my big rant.

I absolutely hate to the core of my being 'health care' in this nation. As a non-US citizen, I've seen how a good nationalized health plan works. What's worse is that I recently left one job in NYC to return to NC and, in the process, I do not have insurance since I'm still a few weeks shy of getting on my current employer's plan. Of course, the 'wonderful' (sarcasm implied) COBRA coverage could have helped (at the great rate of $700 a month!). So, after thinking about either going to the ER and perhaps being able to go to work versus going to work and being totally incapable of working for being too sick, we decided to go.

At least, I know what I have and I know how to treat it, but I'm feeling totally wiped out.

i'm on an inhaler for my shortness of breath and antibiotics. I wish I could rest, but I have to work or I don't get paid since I haven't accumulated any time off (I started just four weeks ago).

3. I'm just getting over pnemonia, too.

I've been off work for the past week. Had to go into the hospital last Monday (stayed until Wednesday a.m.) They fed me oxygen, and had a cold steam thing happening. Chest x-rays, Gram test, antibiotics...

Total cost to me? $0. Gotta love the Canadian Health system.

5. Hate Pneumonia

For about 3 or more years several years ago i had it EVERY YEAR

got to wear I was afraid everytime I coughed

I have allergies and mild asthma, so treating those things has helped

Health Care in the US Sucks!

and I work in that system and can tell you it ain't getting any better!

7. I used to get pneumonia every year.

Now I get a vaccine every 5 years and the worst I get is a mild case of brochitis.

I hope the trip to the ER doesn't set you back too far, and I hope you recover quickly. :hug:
