Anyone watch Dexter on Showtime?
Great show ... was wondering if anyone watched tonight's episode.

1. Not yet...not on here for another 40 minutes...
It's surprisingly good. When I first heard that they were doing a show about a serial killer, I was like "what?"

But it's a great show.

12. Me too. I said "Huh?" to myself, but when I started watching it and
saw exactly what kind of serial killer he was, I was hooked. It has been a great show. In fact, it is the only show I regularly watch. (But I will also be watching Sleeper Cell, 24, and Rome when their seasons start.)

2. jesus! Great show. Some predictions (spoiler alert if you haven't watched up to now)
I think the ice rink security guard is in on it. They kept pointing out that he was in a good mood for a guy who just lost a hand and a foot, then when the fat cop mentioned amputee fetishes it hit me--there are more than one kind of amputee fetishes. Some people want to BE the amputee if they have body dysmorphia, the mental condition that apparently made Michael Jackson cut off his own nose. That would also explain why the doctor isn't at all nervous about being discovered through his "victim" recognizing his voice or something like that.

Also, if the ice truck killer isn't killed while being apprehended, he will either:

  • Save Dexter's secret for a rainy day, or to keep a hook in him.

  • Try to tell people about Dexter and no one believes him (which will also make people think they are nuts if they start to suspect anything fishy about Dexter, or if the black cop gets some theory about him, he won't be able to tell anyone until he has rock solid evidence).

And Rita will find out his secret and not care.

5. That's certainly plausible.
Did you see the previews for next week though?

I can't wait to see it but something tells me there's going to be a huge cliff hanger for next season.

11. whoa, there (spoiler) . . . does the ITK even KNOW about Dexter's extracurricular activities? . . .
I mean, how COULD he know? . . . Dexter is pretty good about keeping his late night slice and dice parties secret, and I can't figure out how Rudy could possibly know about them . . .

isn't it possible -- indeed probable -- that his campaign to drive Dexter nuts is based solely on his memories of his mother's murder, and on the fact that Dexter had his sister and Harry in his life, while the ITK (Dexter's brother, if you haven't figured it out) had no one? . . . isn't it possible that he's just feeling neglected and a bit jealous? . . .

as for the show itself, I think it's great -- despite the gore, which usually turns me off . . . in this case it's so integral to the story that it's not gratuitous . . . some of the characters are a bit one-dimensional, but Dexter himself is one of the best characters since Tony Soprano . . .

can't wait for next week's finale -- though I'm disappointed that I'll then have to wait months for the next season . . .

13. MAJOR SPOILER RESPONSE
Did you see the subplot about the immigrant traffickers Dexter killed? Rudy took Dexter's slide of one of the victim's and scratched a smiley face in it, and after Dexter dumped the body at see, he went out and pulled it up.

And when Dexter found the security guard, chopped and tied up but alive he figured Rudy wanted him to finish the guy off.

17. Oh yeah ... I forgot about that.
Rudy/The Ice Truck Killer definitely knows that Dexter is like him.

16. Yes, I can't wait either ... (spoiler alert)
... I'm curious why you think the Ice Truck Killer is Dexter's brother? I heard others say that too, but I'm not so sure though it's definitely probable.

I'm also curious as to how Dexter's mother got killed. I wonder if Harry had something to do with that - I'm just speculating.

When you ask about Dexter's late night slice and dice, yes, I think Rudy/Ice Truck Killer does know. How couldn't he? I just assumed that he did. Do you think he doesn't?

That's what's great about the show. Different people come away with different interpretations. I do agree about some of the one-dimensional characters. Dexter's sister drives me nuts. She's cute but damn if she doesn't act like a three year old in puppy love. What's up with that. Her character annoys the hell out of me!

23. In the book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" *spoiler alert*
Rudy is his brother and the end hinges on whether or not Dexter will choose to kill his sister (in the book he thinks about it but does not because she is the only person he cares about). That is what Rudy (who was called Brian in the book) has set him up for... a partner in crime of sorts. But the book is a bit different so we will have to see next week.

29. I'm still 2 episodes behind, but (spoiler)
I also figured that Rudy is Dex's bro, and clearly he's jealous of Dex having had a surrogate family.

My first thoughts about Rudy, though, even when he was the "good doctor" guy, was: "hey, didn't this guy play Richard Ramiriz in some movie?? and how ironic is that, them casting everyone in total role-reversals" So, I wasn't too surprised to learn he was the ITK.

I'm still trying to figure out where I've seen the ex-husband from. ??

14. partial confirmation of my guard theory (SPOILER if you haven't seen latest episode)
The other crime lab guy figured out that at least one of the victims was an amputee, and the killer cut off her stump to make it look like he cut off her hand, so he may have met her in the fetish scene, and therefore may have been likely to run into someone wanting his amputation service.

I tried for like 3 or 4 episodes, but it just didn't take. And I liked David in Six Feet Under.

I may try again though.

The last episode I saw was the one with a hockey rink. Dunno why, but it didn't hook me.

I'll try again if the episodes are still avail on Demand

9. as somebody who has read a lot of mysteries in my life,
i saw too much coming, too predictable, but still watched it as it was farly well done. and nice seeing 'david' doing something completely different.
i liked the 1st season of six feet, the 2nd season i watched, but was not as happy. gave up on it 1 or 2 into season 3, but the finish was excellent.

10. I'm giving it another shot
The best part so far is finding all the "Oz" alumni as cops!!

I just saw Cyril O'Reilly for gods sake. And Chuckie Pankamo! And Dr. Nathan.

I'm wondering when Ryan O'Reilly will show up.

Sheesh, I'm still not done watching Oz, and that ended years ago.

I couldn't place what show I saw her in.

It's been so long since I watched OZ, I forgot some of them were on that show.

And it juxtaposes the innocent vs. the macabre without hitting you in the face with it. I mean, the blood oranges!

Showing Dex and Rudy with the tape, string, rope, etc, tying, cutting etc. (packing the house)

28. You people have totally corrupted me (spoiler from ep 7)
The first 3 episodes weren't enough to hook me, but after seeing this thread, I have now watched through episode 7. You think I can stop now???

It's bothering me how in this episode Dex doesn't seem at all concerned about Mr. Iceman revealing his identity. Wasn't that odd?

Crap. NOw I have to go watch episode 8.

36. Yes. I love that show.
I usually avoid that kind of gore and I was quite apprehensive about it at first, but somehow I can't resist it. It is so clever and well-written. It's disturbing yet fascinating. I haven't seen this week's episode yet. I don't have Showtime; I watch it at my boyfriend's, probably tonight or tomorrow.
