Poll question: new car infatuation- how long does it last?
ok, hubby had to have a new car. i will never have to have a new car. it is his first. we survived the process because i just checked out, let him do it himself, and kept my mouth shut. he even went so far as to do the deal himself, even though we have one of the best good cop-bad cop acts around.
so, now we have one of these-

he is now certifiable crazy about this car. i am loathe to so much as touch it. i do not want to put the first scratch on it, which i will. i hate keys and locks, he loves his little blip-blip remote start yada yada.

what i want to know from those of you out there- how long before he comes back down to earth, and it is safe for me to take this thing to the hardware store.
feel free to add you first new car stories. i wish to understand this phenomena. in the meantime, i will be taking my old truck over to buy some thin set.

there is a part of me that thinks that since i am 52, i should be looking at red sports cars. but a new one still seems like a strange thing to me-
this is my dream car.

8. 12 yrs and counting
My husband's first new car was a 1995 Impala SS. We still own it.

Since then we have leased a Cadillac for 3 yrs and returned it.

We bought and still own a 2000 Camaro SS (my car) and a 2002 Corvette Z06.
But that Impala is the one nearest and dearest to his heart because it's the first car he bought brand new.

12. I don't know - I've never understood it myself
I bought my first new car in '04 and I was happy with my purchase but not obsessive. I put the first ding in it within six months and simply shrugged. To me, it's a means to get from Point A to Point B.

My SO, on the other hand, bought a new car around the same time and he's still obsessive. But then again, this is a man who still has the first car he ever bought (a '69 Malibu SS which he's dragged around to every place he's lived since the mid-70's). :eyes:

So maybe it's a guy thing...

15. Until the first scratch/spill/dent.

After that, the car ceases to be an icon of perfection and becomes just another slightly shopworn plaything in the toybox of life.

19. Don't. The sight of a grown man lying on the ground,...
crying like a little baby (or, conversely, flying into a homicidal rage), is not worth the temporary satisfaction.

As Vincent Vega said in "Pulp Fiction": "You don't fuck with another man's wheels."

22. I just got a new Honda myself, so I know how your husband's feeling.

I spend five minutes walking around it each morning, admiring it from different angles, while my wife just looks at the sky in a futile search for divine assistance.

20. It's hard to say.......
I've had mine for six months now, and I'm still thrilled with it!

It even has a scratch on the rear fender/bumper whatever thingy that is...

And that hurts.......but I still love my car! It's not even the first new car I've ever had, either....

Sorry I can't enlighten you on this......:hi:

25. Sounds like you are well grounded.
That car looks like a spaceship. Shouldn't take long to get over the thrill.
