Did anybody watch the "That Girl" marathon on TV Land this weekend? |
|
Marlo Thomas sure was cute. I hadn't seen it in years. Cute show.

watched one for fun and then watched a bunch more. A friend of mine argued over who came first MTM or her...we ended up googling and learned more than I really needed to know. But it was kind of a cute show.

4. I read an interesting article about... |
|
That Girl vs. MTM.
Ann was the first single, working girl but she had a sole boyfriend for most of the series and the show always stressed she was still a virgin. MTM took that next step to a single career girl who was sexually active, and not just with one man.
I loved both shows growing up, and felt that Mary was the natural progression of Ann Marie.

9. Didn't the actor who played Donald (Ted Bessell) also play Mary Tyler Moore's boyfriend on her show? |

11. Yes, Ted played one of... |
|
MTM's boyfriends on her show. The poor guy got typecast as the "nice boyfriend" and couldn't get arrested for any other kind of role. He turned to directing when the acting jobs dried up.

I watched as many hours as I could cram in over the weekend -- I worked four shows, but every extra hour I had was all about That Girl. I even stayed up w-a-y later than I should have to catch as many shows as I could. :)
When I was a young girl I adored that show! I loved Marlo Thomas, loved her clothes, loved Don Hollinger (he was my dream boyfriend for years) -- I was a That Girl freak. When I was in college and a theatre major, I used to go to parties and punk rock shows dressed as Ann Marie -- I had different outfits for her "flip" years and her "no bangs" years. I still have this wicked black and white cocktail number from the mid 60s that I wear with white hose that is 100% Ann Marie. :D
One thing that I loved seeing this weekend was all currently famous actors show up in bit roles, like Rob Reiner, Terry Garr, McLaen Stevenson, and Richard Dreyfus. I had forgotten how much they stressed her virginity yet has so many episodes that contrived to have Ann and Don sleeping in the same room -- how SHOCKING! And Lou Marie was always threatening to cart them off to Maryand for a shotgun wedding.
To say that I was a happy camper this weekend is the understatement of the year. :loveya:

5. And her sister Terre... |

brother Danny, plus her Dad Danny! I always got a kick out of that episode.
One show that I remembered but didn't see over the weekend was the one where Ann was asked to do a nude scene for a show and was about to step onstage but stopped at the last minute.
Did they show ALL the series episodes this weekend or a limited number? It didn't feel like they had shown them all, but I was worried about what I missed when I was sleeping. :D

6. I was out and about a lot |
|
so I'm not sure...I had never seen all of them when it was on anyway. I was sorry to learn (in my googling)that the guy that played Donald died young.

It was a sitcom that was a sitcom. No preaching, no tackling difficult issues...just escapist fun.
