Anyone use a flat iron to straighten their hair? I have a question
My 13 year old daughter has very, very thick curly hair. The kind I'd kill for but she hates. At any rate, her dad splurged and let her get a chemical relax done to straighten her hair. She still has to use an iron to get it straight but by the end of the day she's got waves again. My question is this, what are good styling products to use for getting and keeping hair straight? I have no experience at all with this. Help! Please?!

2. I would just go to the salon and ask which one they use when they style hair that way

There's a lot of good straightening products out now. I used to straighten all the time but my hair started to get too dry from it. :)

3. I have very thick wavy hair
and I straighten mine all the time.

Don't wash your hair everyday, maybe very other
Use a straightening shampoo, such as Frizz Ease Straight Ahead
Use a straightening serum, or lotion
Blow dry straight with a large round brush then flat iron.

I can go from this...

to this...

Good luck!

6. Beautiful!
Thanks for the suggestions. I like the Frizz Eaze myself because otherwise my baby fine frizzy hair looks like a really, really scary clown wig. I keep it cut super short so that I don't make small children cry.

Your hair is lovely in both pix. Thanks for the ideas.

5. Do you live in a humid area? Cause my hair goes flat naturally in the winter when
it is less humid. That helps. A hair dryer with a comb attachment works good for me.

8. do not use a straigtening iron on chemical relaxed hair
the straightening iron will destroy her hair. you`ll have to weather the storm of protests from her but she`ll thank you when she`s older.any good natural relaxers will do the best job without destroying her hair

12. The chemical relaxing really didn't make it straight
It loosed the natural curl to a wave but it's not really straight. I wasn't really in favor of her doing this (I thought her natural hair was lovely) but I figured a kid needs to feel some independence and individuality. In the scope of things my thought is that it's less permanent than getting her nose pierced or getting a tattoo. Her first choice was dreads but her father told her there was no way he was going to allow that. So you pick your battles, you know?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I appreciate it.

9. it's relaxed and she wants to flat iron it?
no. She will fry her hair. She needs to moisturize her hair (it's probably frizzing, not curling). I know some people who swear by frizz ease (john frieda). blow drying it a bit might help if she's determined to have bone straight hair.

10. Garnier Sleek and Shine shampoos and conditioners are good
I use the Paul Mitchell straightworks collection. The super skinny serum is also awesome.

13. There is only one answer, and it is fantastic.
It's by a French hair-care company called Phyto. The product is called Phytodefrisant.

It's a very sheer, weighless gel you put in your hair before blow-drying. Makes your hair straight and frizz-free (with no residue). It works WONDERS and a lot of people don't even need a straight iron afterwards when they style.

Get some...I promise it works!

15. SECOND this.
Sorry to say,all the other posters are lovely, but nothing beats good hair product, and Phyto is one such product.
I would possibly also try the Matirx Straight line; it was heavy on my hair so it might work on hers. It's in orange bottles, you can't miss it.
