Anyone put together model ships?
My mom has assigned me to find a model ship kit for my dad. He built her a dollhouse (which took about a year) and said that after that, he might enjoy model ships. But I have NO IDEA what he could handle at this point

I've been online, and found a bunch of sites, but don't know where to start him.

If you're into this as a hobby, PLEASE PM me, because I have a bunch of questions!

3. My dad is home-bound
and was surprised he enjoyed putting together the difficult dollhouse kit

There seems to be a lot of model boat choices - solid hull, planked hull - my head is spinning.

2. When I was a kid
I was really into that. If I remember correctly, the kits had some sort of info on them as to skill level or level of difficulty...

4. I plan to stick to those kits that DO rank difficulty!
Don't want him either too bored or too frustrated.

5. Yeah, or get some of one level
and another of a more difficult level. I remember putting together the Wright Brother's plane. All those little threads...omg.

6. Model ship kits run from easy to almost impossible to complete
Eyesight, patience and aptitude need to be determined to see where he should start. Just a crazy idea, but maybe you could introduce him to building a ship in a bottle. There are some neat ship in a bottle kits out there that are reasonably challenging and modestly priced, and can be completed in a far shorter period of time than the intricate models. Perhaps your dad could attempt one of those to see if it's his cup of tea.

Just an idea, and my wife adds: it would be a lot easier to dust. ;)
