A great reason to shop at Target |
|
Some of you remember that my youngest daughter came out to me awhile back. She got a job working at Target last month and found out that, even though Virginia does NOT require employers not to discriminate against GLBTs, Target has a specific policy protecting anyone GLBT from being discriminated against. Oh yeah, and they won't let the Salvation Army solicit donations in front of their store anymore... yet another reason to spend my money there :D

Good prices, great employment policies, from what I hear. Employees always seem happy.

5. My daughter loves it so far |
|
She makes much more working less hours at Target than she did working longer hours for her prior employer. The anti-discrimination policy made her much happier about having taken the job though.

6. They did kind of jerk my brother around |
|
when he was working as a contractor in the their IT department. Now he's moved on to another company. I still buy almost all of my houseware-type stuff there.
And there are about the only really serious competition Wal Mart has anymore.
Oh yeah--they also kick in to MN Dept. of Natural Resources "Adopt a River" program. That wins point from me! :)

8. They have some sort of program for the employees to donate a children's program too |
|
It's entirely voluntary, but you can have five bucks or however much you decide on taken out of your check and donated to this program for children. I cannot, for the life of me, remember what it is right now, but it's a good program.

7. I disagree with the Salvation Army ban |
|
But I understand they're trying to be fair by being equally unfair. Sometimes that's the only reasonable way you can be fair.

9. What? It's unfair to back up your anti-discrimination against gays and lesbians by banning bigots |
|
By banning bigots who discriminate from asking for money in front of your store? I think it's entirely fair. I have seen them discriminate in my own community, not just against gays and lesbians either. I have ZERO sympathy for the SA.

10. I have no knowledge of any such discrimination |
|
That doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that I don't believe it exists. It means I'm not aware of it, and therefore it could not be part of my argument.
Target, Inc.'s stated reason for banning the SA was they didn't want shoppers inconvenienced by solicitation in front of their stores, so they banned all of it. I support that.
