My last five days
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 09:09 AM by underpants
Thursday-they need to do a full testing on the heater so I stayed home while they worked on it. Changed the heat exchanger. Everything working fine. Baby Josie couldn't get her flu shot because she was sick-cold? the croup? ear infection? Not sure.

Friday-I stay home with Josie who has a temperature so she can't go to day care.

Saturday-buddy comes over to chimney sweep. We both decide that standing up on an 8 foot chase with no safety line about 35 feet up above the driveway is not a good idea. We go have lunch.

Sunday-3AM I awake to the heat clicking on and off. Only cold air is blowing. We go downstairs start a fire and I sleep with Josie in my lap. 10AM I make a run to the grocery store and Hardee's. I get back and walk into the kitchen (momma and baby are in the den) to find a massive pool of water-the dishwasher is leaking actually spewing water out across the kitchen. I call the landlord's maintenance line AGAIN.

Sunday night instead of going to a hotel we put up a sheet to cover the den door. Fire up the fireplace and use a space heater to keep the room warm (we started on this early Sunday afternoon). Mostly comfortable but the cats can't figure out how to negotiate the door covering so they continue going in and out. Cold cold COLD in the rest of the house.

Josie wakes at 4AM thinking it is playtime with mommy and daddy.

Monday-I stay home again. My wife takes a two hour nap before trudging back into work. Fellow employee had heat troubles the night before too-boss laughs at them not coordinating their stories. Heater guys come back, replace main board and exhaust fan. Working fine so far.

I am actually relieved to be at work but my fellow employees came in and "re-organized" everything on my desk. These two have the messiest garbage dumps of offices you have ever seen. Mine is highly organized with specific small piles for clearly specific reasons-another coworker just brought in something they found somewhere and .... I have no idea what is going on now.

Oh well. Hey I can't complain.

9. Actually
When my buddy was up there to do the chimney sweep he noticed a rather large buckle in the roof. You can't see it unless you are standing in a certain spot in my neighbor's yard (returning the ladder we had borrowed). I went up in the attic-there is some water damage.

I am learning so much about maintenance on a house-good thing we are only renting.

See and people mock apartment dwellers.

Friday my 23 year old diesel car wouldn't start. Dead battery, seemingly. I was two hours late for work, on one of my busiest days. Couldn't finish in time, so I had to come back in at night to finish up.

Saturday--tried to fix car. Got battery out, brought it to my work to charge it (I couldn't find my charger). Got sucked into working a few hours on my off day, while my kids were home alone in my apartment. Took recharged battery home, hooked it up. No workie. My mechanic had said the battery could be be bad. So I turned off car, and slammed the door. It wouldn't close. Slammed it again, it bounced back open. It does this sometimes, so I wasn't in the mood. I slammed it extra hard. The window shattered.

Rented a car to run the errands I had for the weekend (including seeing Christmas lights--check other jobycom thread). Ordered a battery (80 bucks) for the car. Spent Sunday with my youngest kid, cleaning up from the move into my new apartment.

Monday, got new battery, installed it. Still no workie.

Tuesday, called a random wrecker company to come get my car. They did. They charged twice what everyone else charges. Stupid me didn't ask until the deed was done.

Car is now on hoist, with plastic over the window, a new battery, and probably needing another expensive part that will have to be ordered. Darned 23 year old cars. I'm already out 300 bucks on the car, two weeks after an expensive move, and just before Christmas. Now the real expenses begin.

At least I wasn't cold, and my kid wasn't sick. Maybe you still top me. But darnit, if there's griping to be handed out, I felt like I wanted a place in line!
