Has your town been invaded by inflatable Christmas decorations? |
|
I completely missed this trend, is it just my town or is it sweeping America?
I can't decide which one I like best - Santa on the Harley or the rotating carousel inside the snow globe.
Which one is your favorite?

A neighbor has one that looks like Santa crawling inside an igloo with only his kicking legs showing.

3. Yes, it has, and I don't have a favorite. They're not my favorite types of decoration. |

Expensive, tacky and hopefully just a passing fad. This is just my opinion, of course. ;)

6. Not in my area, because the lawns aren't really big enough for those things |
|
But they're all over the suburbs. They look so weird when they're deflated during the day. :D

7. Yes and one of them scared me half to death last week |
|
I drove past it in the daytime and it was deflated so it was lying in a heap on the ground. I have no clue what it was supposed to be but I drove past it at about 20 mph and out of the corner of my eye it looked like a slumped over body. Lots of elderly people in my neighborhood and I thought one of them collapsed out in the yard. Freaked me out.

16. They scare me when they are inflated, |
|
too.
They are big and ugly and scary.
Maybe I should go poke holes in a few of them.

I still have the old fashioned plastic lighted type so I won't be getting any..but I have seen one with Pooh and Tigger being pulled in a sleigh by Eeyore that I like.

10. My mom's neighborhood has gone insane |
|
Every year I take my daughter to mom's neighborhood because most homes have really cool xmas light displays but over the past two years the ridiculous inflatable decorations have started to take over. I admit that the huge snow globe looks cool but I get grossed out when I can count 5 or more in one yard. I'm such judgmental pain in the butt....I can't help but quickly calculate the hundreds of dollars these people spend on what can only be described as the rich man's pink flamingo and question why the money wasn't given to charity instead. Obviously I have no way of knowing how much money, if any, they spend on more meaningful things but as a general rule it should always be more than what is spent on yard decorations IMO.

11. Nah, I'm judgmental too, I'm not a big fan of plastic and prefer |
|
more subtle, classic decorations. I think the carousel goes for at least $100.
One of our neighbors has a giant Homer Simpson in his yard - it just looks weird.

12. My favorite house to laugh at.... |
|
We call it the Griswald House on crack because these people have every inch of their roof smothered in lights, a handful of creepy figurines (Santa, reindeer, elves, etc), and no less than 10 inflatable decorations of various sizes. Clearly they have shelled out more than $1000 on seasonal tacky crap. In the middle of this commercialized insanity is an almost life size nativity scene. Makes me laugh every time.

Right across the street there are 5 or 6 in the yard. A bit over the top, I sez.
I guess they're on timers. Every morning they're 'dead'. Just lying on the ground, deflated. Sometime during the day they spring back to life.

17. my neighborhood is overflowing with them |
|
The subdivision where I live has a large percentage of Asians - Indians, Chinese, Pakistanis, etc. - and I almost think the non Asians are overcompensating by having a huge amount of garish lights that are probably visible from the moon...
I don't remember people having more than a few window candles when I was growing up.

Give me the warm fuzzy Christmas lights any day. I also detest those wood cutouts of cartoon figures decked out in Christmas laurel. I've passed a house sporting Daisy and Donald Duck in their holiday glory on the lawn and would like to do some target shooting. But, that's just me.

|
but as soon as you hit the rural roads, they're all over the place. I can't stand having plastic chairs in my backyard... I'm sure as hell not going to have an inflatable plastic snowman in the front.

I use snowmen to decorate a lot for the holidays because you don't have to take it down right away...kind of a winter theme.
