I hate being ignored by potential employers
I've sent out six résumés in the last three weeks and have yet to receive even one response. Do I suck that completely?

1. Six in three weeks?
We're basically told to pepper our resumes around the country (if we want to work for Giant, Soul Sucking and Scary but we don't care where) and expect a 1% response rate, and most of those will be "we'll keep your resume on file."

I'm limited as to where I work, so I will not be using that tactic.

Good luck.

2. Three weeks isn't enough time, especially this time of year.
Professional jobs, I'd worry after two months. You could follow up by phone to see if they'd discuss whether the jobs are still open.

4. Oy vey me too
I applied for a job that I would fit perfectly. It was through an agency. The agency rep e-mailed me to ask for a Word doc of my resume (I had suggested they check my resume on my Web site so they could see what I could do, site-building-wise, as that's part of the job description, but...no). I amiably sent back a Word doc almost immediately.

It's been 2 1/2 weeks...

If I don't qualify for THAT job, one I could do in my sleep, then it would seem I am doomed to the current job hellhole for all eternity.

5. When I moved back to my hometown
I got the listing of business from the chamber of commerce.
I sent out 80 resumes and got about 3 responses. I actually got hired at one job, but it didn't work out. :(

So I know how you feel. Hope it gets better soon. Going to the chamber of commmerce and getting that list is a great place to start, I think, plus all the online places like monster.com

6. No, your impatience sucks though.
So does mine. Sent out over 2000 in the last 4 months, covering the entire metro area where I live. No responses to any. I'm still sending out 4-6 a day.

7. Is this for a law job?

My friend passed the bar almost two years ago and still has not found a job in the law business.

Not to get you down and all....

So she's still a cop. Luckily, her job there is secure and it's decent pay.

10. That's so ironic - I went to law school at Pitt
But I live in Texas now (thanks, Mr. DTBK). When did your friends graduate? I did in 2005.

17. yeah, I think I remember you saying that
well, many of them graduated from law school quite a while ago... I don't think I know anyone who graduated recently. But all of the ones I know have jobs or recently were re-employed in the field. I even know some paralegals who have jobs, but I think that is,oddly, more competitive.

It really seems that the best way to get jobs is to ask people you know or even people you just met, you never know who will know someone helpful.

Good luck.

12. I have sent out at least 30 resumes in 3 weeks
that is low for me, and I have a job. Don't look for anyone to respond at least until 01/15/07 or 02/01/07.

Dec. 31, 2006 is the last day of the 4th quarter.

You would be LUCKY even if you got an interview at this time, too many minds are on Christmas.

I am 46 and have NEVER been hired or interviewed for a job after November 1.

Stay patient

Not you...the situation.

I sent a resume out in late October and got an immediate response from the E.D. about how much he loved my resume and cover letter and that he'd get in touch with me after the election. I patiently waited and got back in touch with him three times by email after the election, even sending a reminder (not in these words) "hey, here's that resume you loved soo much" email and still have heard nothing.

I hate finding that perfect job and then nuttin'.

19. sometimes it seems like you send them into a black hole
when I was job searching, I thought getting one response out of 50 resumes sent was good. You just have to keep at it, eventually something will stick.
