Okay, I’m a little freaked out right now....
I come home today and one of my neighbors informs me that a naked woman’s body was found not 100 feet outside my bedroom window, obscured by the empty house that no one lives in that is next door to mine. :scared: I keep thinking about the fact that I tend to leave my bedroom window open most nights with the shades open to let in a fresh breeze since no one lives on that side of my house. No one can tell me if the body was decomposing or not, but I recall a taking a nap one evening last week and being awoken by a racket outside my window in the other house’s yard. I peeked to see what was going on and I saw the shadow of some guy (I couldn’t clearly see him because it was so dark out) fiddling with something in the other yard and he must have seen my silhouette because he stopped what he was doing and high-tailed it away from there. I am trying right now to convince myself that these two events are completely unrelated. :scared:

I’m sorry that the woman lost her life, but that doesn’t stop me from being creeped out that someone would dump a body so close to my home.

6. Good, you never know what will help the police.
Even little things that seem rather vague can make a lot of difference when put into a context. I would also suggest that you get a good size dog if you can. In fact I would recommend a pit bull, dandy little dogs, great watch pups, and contrary to popular belief, loving, gentle intelligent dogs(unless you decide to be an ass and train it to be vicious.)

9. Exactly right.
Even if you couldn't identify anything, just putting a date and time to an incident can be a great help.

21. Thanks for the welcome
I hope you sleep easy, with all the precautions and company.

And I hope the cops solve it quick, so you can enjoy the breezes again.

Regards.

10. I really do hope it helps somehow.
I believe in having dogs. Mine recently past away I don't want to get another one until I have settled down roots in a place that I know I will stay.

12. I understand about the whole putting down roots thing,
But frankly if you want to regain some sense of security in your current place(and from your tone it sounds like you do) I would suggest getting a good dog:shrug:

16. I hear ya.
I appreciate your suggestions, but I have family and friends coming over to keep me company and a few are going to stick around for some time -- safety in numbers and all that....

3. wow
I'm sorry that happened. You probably should tell the police about that incident though. I am grateful to have dogs; one in particular, an aussie cattle mix, is the 'serious' one, who only barks if there is something legitimately there that is not 'sposed to be, so I know when I hear her bark I better take it seriously.

7. I like having dogs around too.
My dog just recently passed away and I'm not ready to get another dog to replace him especially since I don't think I'm going to be staying here (for reasons not related to this incident). I don't want to put any more animals than I have to through a move. And I did call the police.

8. If there is one thing that woman did in losing her life,
it is creep you out so that you and others may be able to avoid the same fate. You can't help her but you might be helpful in another way. I'm glad you called the police. Did they tell you to lock up and keep your curtains drawn? Or did they have any advice at all?

11. The detective was gone for the day.
I have to call and repeat the story to him tomorrow. But, the woman I spoke to just told me good luck. But, you better believe I will be checking every lock thrice and closing all my windows and shades.

17. Some security things you can get/do for little to no money
Inexpensive alarm system--battery-operated
http://www.coolstuffontv.com/electronics/bell&howellalarm.htm

Window/patio door locks-non-keyed (All hardware stores carry these)
http://www.taymor.com/c03_doors_and_hardware/door_and_sec_2_us.htm

If you have a slider door, a broom handle or other similar length of wood, placed in the inside track to keep door from being forced open. I actually use an old Webster duster handle in mine.

Maybe a hand-held alarm for between car and house

Some other safety tips:

Mostly, just remain aware and observant. Could be the woman was killed by someone she knew, as is often the case. Just a terrible thing that it happened and that it's by your home.

18. Thanks for the awesome info.
I'm definitely looking into some inexpensive security options.

I sort of pride myself on being aware of what's going on around me that's why I'm unsettled by this incident.... Thanks for the hug.
