If you feel slightly ill and want to call in,
do you make yourself sound worse than you are?

Or just say you won't be going in?

2. sometimes
I usually tell them straight up that I'm not working but once in a while I make a little cough or maybe say something like "I have a wicked head cold". Since I work in the health field they can't really insist I show up and risk making patients sick.

One supervisor told me "darn, we really need you today" and I was thinking "screw you pal, I'm going fishing".

3. I do what REV does. Complain about a sore throat for a day and then
don't show up for a week.

10. don't waffle about it
If you feel slightly ill, don't tone it down. You're too sick to come to work, period.

If you get a couple more hours of sleep and then feel well enough to play the rest of the day, its yours to enjoy.

11. Tell them you have diarrhea.
Trust me--NOBODY is gonna ask for any details and they most certainly do NOT want you there.

13. I'm a stay at home mom. I don't get to phone-in sick. BUT.....
when I was out in the work force, I definitely made myself sound worse than I actually felt.

And if you really want a day off...tell them you have the stomach flu. That'll get you a pass every time. Nobody wants to catch the stomach flu from you.

14. No. If I'm sick enough to stay home, I just say so.
Sometimes sick doesn't "sound" sick, and the famous fake cough is so obvious.
