I did that today. Dwight Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, etc, etc.

1. Oh yes.
I bought a collection of opera favorites last year. I soon realized my taste is not as eclectic as I thought :)

2. Yes, I've done that a few times...
What happens most though, is that I buy a cd for 1 or 2 songs tops...and the rest of the CD is bunk.

yes, I am now revealed to be a total hillbilly dork, but that is some seriously good neo-traditional country music. I love the song "It Won't Hurt", that used to be my favorite drinking song.

edit: also, I love the duet with Maria McKee called "Bury Me", she really lets loose on that song which I haven't heard her do too much.

great live performance of "It Won't Hurt"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y__htyubFPw

here's "Honky-Tonk Man"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7imnYpF30Rw&mode=related&search=

looking at these early videos I can really see why I thought he was so sexy back then...rowr.

4. Haven't heard her do too much?!
Dang, that's what she does most of the time. YouTube has some great Maria clips (look for a live performance of "I Found Love" from the Lone Justice period). She fucking rocks--one of the most underrated singers out there.

10. I seem to only hear her slow songs.
But then I haven't really pursued it. What I have heard her do doesn't really compare to the hillbilly twang she does in Bury Me. Thanks for the info.

I think she's a great writer, I love the song of hers the Dixie Chicks cover called "Am I the Only One".

12. Have you heard any of the Lone Justice stuff?
If not, try to get a CD. There's a really good greatest hits CD that I cannot recommend highly enough. Damn fucking shame that group broke up as early as it did.

And YouTube has bunches of clips of her and of Lone Justice.

And it seems like I remember a song...I really liked them, and then boom they disappeared. :( Good to know about the greatest hits CD, I can download some of it when I get some dough after x-mas.

14. "Shelter" was their only chart hit....
...but she just tears it up on songs like "Drugstore Cowboy," "Rattlesnake Woman," "I Found Love," and does a nasty (good) cover of Tom Petty's "Ways to be Wicked."

23. Oh good, now I do not feel lame.
I do like his acting a LOT. I think he is marvelous in The Three Burials.

Yeah he is still a looker for a 50 year old.

Does the Christmas album have O Come All Ye Faithful?

7. God, yes. The White Stripes. Worst music ever made.
I listened to it once and then begged my teenaged neighbor boy to come and remove it from my house.

Even he didn't like it...and he likes everything.

29. I, too, detest the White Stripes, but LOVE LOVE LOVE The Raconteurs.
My jaw hit the ground when I found out the Raconteurs is Jack White's group. Really great retro rock--listen to Broken Boy Soldiers back-to-back with the Beatles' Revolver. Great stuff.

19. I always thought of you as a smart guy...
This method you choose, informed consumer.. The RIAA is unhappy. Please buy the entire album for the one good song. We will both win, well, actually the RIAA wins, and you get fucked in the ass.
