18. I think it's cruel, the way our bodies and faces take on |
|
harsh evidence of the years while our minds get more and more interesting & wonderful. I have a grandmother who is 97 and she has never come to terms with it. Even wispy-thin and using an oxygen mask, her eyes are brilliant and her thoughts are original. Just the body fails her. Who thought up this crappy system anyway?

21. Once I was a religious person and I imagined |
|
that the decay of the body was the Lord's way of forcing us to look inside, to search for God, after a lifetime of enjoying the pleasures He provided us. Part of me still thinks this might be the case. The other part agrees with you. Sadist!

26. I'm Thinking That There Is No Gravity |
|
the earth just sucks.
Seriously though, gravity is what ultimately wins isn't it.
we get down and can't get up. It's a short trip to the cemetery from there.
(So I guess I'm saying when we can't get up, we're toast in short order)

I think about that, I'm halfway to 90!
My Grandma died at 94.
My Grandpa died at 87.
(paternal)
My maternal grandparents were a little younger
I get your drift though, it does seem a little cruel to watch the body decay and the mind stay intact.
My mother slid downhill over 5 years of having cancer and tons of chemotherapy. The chemo killed her, the cancer would have. Not sure I'd have chosen the chemo. She wanted to live. Interesting woman. Was my Sunday school teacher turned atheist in her later years.

22. I Don't Feel Any Older Mentally |
|
emotionally I feel about the same as I did when I was about 18
my body on the other hand, well it feels, sore right now.
But sore I can handle.
My mind is as agile as it was (I think) when I was younger. I feel I have more awareness, and things are less frightening to me.
I feel more confident.
Then I realize that I'm (hopefully) middle aged 45 years old.
I don't long for youth. I long for peace in all spheres of my awareness.

and I have this horrible feeling that my life is already more than half over. Other people seem to think they have all the time in the world but all my life I felt rushed to live it and I have...and now I'm tired and I feel old. I can't pinpoint the exact age I feel, but it's definitely older than I am.

You have to fight it, because it isn't true. You are as young right now as you will ever be, and you have twenty years or more before anybody will look at you and think "middle-aged". Enjoy being young and strong. You truly are.

37. does that feeling go away after a few years? |
|
I know logically that I'm young and I'm actually really excited about getting out of my 20's and embracing my new decade but I fear that at this rate I'll feel 110 by the time I'm 40.
I don't want to look back on this time and kick myself for thinking such stupid thoughts but I'm not sure how to change this weird "I'm old" feeling. Does it pass on it's own or should I do something to help me get a better personal perspective?

I kept thinking "quarter of a century"
My advice: take care of your body now. You will thank yourself later. I'm 45 and playing catch up, it's working, but I wouldn't recommend it.
