Poll question: Is this pear ready to eat? |
|
I bought it three days ago--it was rock hard and very green. One side is mostly yellow now, while the other is mostly green with yellow starting to come through. The flesh has some give and the inevitable spots and nicks are turning brown.
I know that the more beat up loking a pear is, the better it is, and the soter the riper--but it's been awhie since I've had one (A bartlett by the way) and don't know if I should hold off or go for it.
M'mmmmmmmm PEARS!

A ripe pear smells like a pear. Don't wait too long or it will get mushy in the middle. Buy 2-3 and keep them in a paper bag with an apple to aid ripening, and check pears for good pear aroma each day.

I'll be hittin' the store tonight to buy some more pears, this one was kind of an experiment as the season seems to be over for honeycrisp apples (they look great but the flavor is slippiing. All I know about pears is what I've put together myself.
Thanks for the tips! :hi:

8. It does take some experimentation |

I just bought some Bosc pears - the last ones I bought were delicious.
I just didn't want you to be disappointed as I have been lately waiting for avocados to reach perfection- you can't smell them, and they have to "give" just a little or they are too far gone.
