I'm pretty late, but I haven't been able to talk to anyone else, since none of my friends watch it. What'd you all think of the season finale? I had loved the season, but I was kinda disappointed. The stage had been set for a massive confrontation, and it's basically resolved by capitulating to the archvillain, who later essentially rides off into the sunset while the hero is less than triumphant. I realize the aim of the show is to be realistic, but they've also shown they're not bound by historical fact. They could have at least given us a major character death. Leon's just not cuttin' it for me. Thoughts?

2. They had nowhere to go. |

Hurst was too powerful, and he didn't care if he had to destroy the camp to subjugate the opposition. It was either go hard at Hurst or give in. Since it was Alma’s mine he wanted, the path was clear. Ellsworth’s murder signaled how Hurst would deal with anyone else who stood in his way. If those in town who could use a gun and the extra men with Hawkeye tried to go at Hurst they would have had to go through the Pinkertons first. The Pinkertons would not have discriminated in the direction of their shots. It would have been a bloodbath. Even if Hurst were killed, a horde of vengeful Pinkertons would have descended on the camp’s survivors since they can’t be seen to have been beaten.
Leon getting the sharp end of Cy’s frustration at watching his hope for wealth ride out of town (and his humiliation at now being locked in to comping Hurst workers for their booze & tail) was kinda inevitable. Leon was too sloppy to live.
I look forward to the two two-hour features. Hurst will be missed. There was a true sociopath as is seldom portrayed in film or television.
Sorry for the poor grammer.

3. Yeah, that's why I shouldn't write the show |
|
because I would've had a big, epic battle to cap the series instead of the realistic one they had. With me at the reins it might turn into some unholy "Heaven's Gate" clone.

4. Speaking of Deadwood, when was the last time you watched McCabe & Mrs Miller? |
|
Great way to stave off Deadwood hunger pangs!

Yeah, it's Deadwood. But with a great Leonard Cohen sound track.
And, the end sucks. With a big thud.
