Living with an 18 year old is funny already -
And it's only been (almost) 2 days!

She got home last night and I was on the phone - I kind of expected her to run into her room and hide, since she's shy and doesn't know me that well. She's hyper sensitive about being in the way or being a burden. BUT - instead she flops down next to me on the the sofa and just starts chattering away, phone call be damned! No harm no foul, since I really want her to be comfortable and at ease - so this means she obviously IS.

Then she wants to know if I want to watch a movie with her. Well - I wanted to talk on the phone, but I felt like she was in need of some attention so I (sorta) reluctantly got off the phone to settle in with my new houseguest. We got our jammies on, pulled the futon out so we could both lay comfortably WITH the dog, and mowed down a bag of Doritos with a jar of cheese dip. Ai! Now *I* feel like I'm 18 - lol.

I can only wonder what tonight may have in store. AND how fat this cooperative venture is going to make me. :P

1. Sounds like you at least had fun.
It probably was nice to have company and do something different

4. It was fun!
Not doing much for my sleep patterns, however! Not that I've been doing so hot in that department anyway thanks to recent phone habits.

I really like her, and am happy to be able to help her in any way that I can.

2. Maybe she was testing you.
Just to see how welcoming you would be. Sounds like you passed. Was the movie Clerks 2?

5. Noooooooooooo!
I don't have Clerks2 yet!!!

Movie #1 was an indie flick that we talked through - movie #2 was "Snow White" w/ Sigourney Weaver, and I fell asleep before it was over. She picked the movies from my not too small collection.

3. Eventually you might have to tell her to keep it down while you're
on the phone. But last night you did the right thing! I hope the arrangement continues to work out for both of you. Young people... they grow on you.

6. I agree.
And I'm not afraid to tell her to "get lost" in so many words - I'm gifted with diplomacy, so I'm not afraid I'll scare her off if I'm honest about wanting to be left alone.

7. If you weren't gifted with diplomacy you'd have been stupid
to take her on. I know you're not stupid :)

8. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
:)

She's a good girl that's had a terrible life and needs someone to care about her. As long as she's willing to work in a positive direction I'm willing to do what I can to help her out. I'm very fortunate to be in a position that I CAN.
