Snail mail: How many days to get from east coast to west coast?

Does anybody know? And I do expect it would take a little longer than normal, given that it's the holiday season.

1. a regular letter shouldn't take longer than a week

2. In my experience with Northeast to SF Bay Area, it's 3 - 4 days for letters

Four days to the East Coast, 3 days from the East Coast if mailed from a post office.
Same deal for Priority Mail parcels. This time of year those parcels can take 6 days or more.

I'm waiting for my 401k check (had to cash it out when I changed jobs; need the bucks). The woman who is handling the disbursement said she probably would be able to get to it at the end of last week. She's on the east coast.
