Gallagher attacks Green Day for 'ripping off' Wonderwall
Oasis star Noel Gallagher has accused punk trio Green Day of "ripping off" his Wonderwall anthem for their hit Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.

Here is a mashup such that you can see where the ripoff occurred:

11. Come on dude, you can't be that oblivious/humourless
LoZocollo's schtick for some time now has been the whole Oasis thing. It pisses those who thik he's serious off and makes those of us who know it's a joke laugh hysterically. (Or such is my interpretation.)

4. what a crybaby
wonderwall is a great song, but you can't own such basic chord progressions. The songs are very different.

5. The mashup is all wrong.
You can tell that the songs have been distorted to more closely match. In one instance Neol Gallagher's (or whichever one of them is singing the song)voice sounds distorted from being slowed down and the pitch lowered to match hat of the Green Day song. The arrangement of the Oasis song is all wrong, too.

Noel Gallagher has a cordial relationship with the press and the public. That is how you can tell the difference.

9. Ha. Oasis *wishes* that Green Day had ripped them off.
Noel would probably pay beaucoup bucks just to have Billie Joe Armstrong admit publicly that he even knows who Oasis *is*.

Melodramatic publicity stunt. The songs sound nothing alike.

13. That was a pretty cool mashup, but I don't think Green Day ripped them off.
If the mashup proves anybody was ripped off, it was Aerosmith.

23. Yes, Noel Gallagher is an ass, but he's right...
The first time I ever heard "Boulevard," the first thing I started singing was "Wonderwall." Whether it was intentional is another matter. It's most likely a situation similar to that of George Harrison accidentally ripping off "He's So Fine" (and "Oh Happy Day") for "My Sweet Lord."

Does that make them bigger than the Beatles? :hide:

Seriously, I've listened to Wonderwall and I'd rather listen to Green Day. Plus Green Day are major democratic supporters!

31. That is an unfair comparison because the members of Oasis cannot vote in U.S. elections.
Noel Gallagher has said that he supports the Labour Party, which is England's version of the Democratic Party:

http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?b=news&id=78322

The record sales figures give truth to the idea that Oasis is more popular than Green Day, and I would posit that Green Day's popularity is due to them copying the Oasis song.

Another side note I would like to bring up is that two of the members of Green Day stopped a tour due to panic attacks. Normally this is nothing to laugh at, but you have to wonder why they are afraid of their audience rather than something like being afraid of heights. Liam Gallagher has shown without a doubt that he is not afraid of his audience, or expressing himself before an audience, with his stage presence:

30. Somewhere, George Harrison is laughing...
... or crying. I can't tell, exactly. Ah, but it's just like Joni said: "Laughing and crying, you know it's the same release."

Oasis wouldn't exist without the Beatles; Green Day wouldn't exist without the Clash. It goes wiff-out saying, innit? Of the two bands, which has evolved more fully in the last few years in the general direction of something original and vital? That'd be Green Day.
