Today was my last day of radiation.
I was diagnosed with a "choroidal melanoma" earlier this year. It started to grow so my oncologist suggested we treat it with radiation.

My wife and I spent the past 4 days in Sacramento while I was being treated at UC Davis. The treatment was rather painless, and the doctor said I should never require anymore treatment for this problem.

I am just glad that it is behind me. I will lose most of the sight in my left eye, but what can you do?

It was great to get home and to give my son and daughter big, big hugs!!

6. I feel great! The radiation they used on me is called "proton radiation."
It is 10 times stronger than what is normally used, and can be used to destroy small tumors (like mine) accurately and without damaging surrounding tissue.

I had to go to UC Davis because it is one of the few places in the country that has a particle accelerator that can produce this type of radiation. It really is amazing.

7. I did get it...and I really like it!
I just remembered that I was going to send you some Gigolo Aunts stuff.

PM your address to me. The quality on the stuff I have is not that great, but they are great demos of songs from "Is Everybody Happy.?"

I spoke with my friend Steve last month; the Aunts played some shows in Spain in October. Phil (Steve's brother and an original Aunt), joined them.

3. My dear driver8..........
I'm so glad today was your last day of radiation!

And you surely already know that you can function with only one eye...

You will most likely lose your depth perception from having only the one eye to see from......

But the good news is, you will learn how to live without that!

Welcome home, my dear driver8!

8. Thanks, Peggy!
I have been slowly losing the vision in my left eye for awhile so I am learning to live with vision in one eye. When the sun is bright, I hardly notice any change. However, when I am driving at night my depth perception is not very good at all.

9. Congrats on finishing that. and don't worry about the sight

I have had vision in just one eye for a long time now, and you do get used to it :)

It makes you really thankful that for some of the important things, we have TWO of them :)

the depth perception loss makes driving a bit weird at first, and there's the idignity of having to take an actual behind the wheel driving test every two years, but if I can pass it, anyone can.:)

20. Glad you are on the mend
my nephew lost his sight in one eye to cancer, and it hasn't stopped him a bit. The brain is a marvelous thing, it "relearns" how to see to compensate for the loss of stereoscopic vision. It will be an adjustment, but as you said, it's been a gradual loss, so your brain has likely been picking up the slack already. Enjoy the holidays with your family! :toast:
