Advice on getting a big blog readership?

A friend of mine and I started a group blog in October. We write about whatever we think might be interesting for readers, and it's been almost all politics. If anyone's got any advice on how to attract a large audience, it'd be very appreciated. :)

1. You've gotta whore the hell out of yourself

on other blogs — particularly those like yours. Get a billion people to blogroll you. Then wait about a year.

My blog is more in the spirit of a particular pol and my strife around his principles...or how I came up short. I have quite a few readers, but not thousands daily. OK with me.
