Serius or XM?

XM has a promo going on -- $99 for the radio and three months service. Sounds like a good deal, but I don't know anything about either service. Please don't use Howard Stern as a reason to recommend...it'll be for the wife, and I'm certain Mr. Stern's show will not be on her top-ten play list. Which would you choose, and why? Thanks!

1. You will probably seem XM and Sirius merge in the next year.

The CEO of Sirius has been dropping the hint far and wide in the business press.

I have XM, I listen to music, mostly, they annoyed me by dropping a couple channels I listened to the most.

I prefer XM...

If you're looking for progressive programing Air America is on XM, but, I've heard
Steph Miller and soon Mike Malloy will be on Sirius.

3. XM has AAR and Bob Dylan. That's all I need to know.

And I have been listening to several XM music channels... I like it a lot. I can listen to the genres I like and not be bothered with the crap I always hear on the FM stations. I have discovered some artists new to me in this way.

4. Speaking as a satisfied Sirius customer

I'll list the following besides Stern

BBC
NPR (2 channels)
CBC
C-SPAN
World News
Raw Dog Comedy (classic uncensored comedy clips mostly)

Also, my wife took a look at XM vs Sirius in terms of music (I listen almost exclusively to talk) and said Sirius more matched her tastes in music selection. Her tastes are 80's pop and alternative rock.

It's been 2 years and I'm a satisfied customer, I would keep it without Stern. Stern was the reason I picked Sirius to begin with but not the reason I decided to go to sat radio. But now that I've had it I think I still would've gone with Sirius.

5. 80's pop and alt

That sounds more like my wife. We usually use my iPod with an FM transmitter in my car, so I keep it loaded with stuff she likes, but she's pretty open-minded about music. She introduced to me to stuff like Little Feat many years ago, so she has basically pretty good taste. But when I use her car and the iPod isn't there, she's content to listen to those office-background-music stations. Ugh. She's okay with alternative and college-radio offerings on iTunes, but she's pretty much into melodies and pop. IOW, ain't no metal or avant garde stuff going to be played on it.
