anybody have any fun vacations coming up?
i'm pricing airfare for spring break and i'm already getting really excited.

dad, sis and i are flying to san francisco and spending a few day in the city, then driving up the coast and cutting over to mendocino county to visit my favorite cousin and then up to portland for a few more days.

we did this trip a few years back and it was one of the best vacations ever.

anyone else got a fun trip coming up?

28. Cabo is great
I do a lot of layovers there - the airline actually puts us up at an all-inclusive place. Needless to say, it's a very senior trip.

Have fun!

3. New Orleans!
right after New Year's. First time back since I left sixteen years ago.

"The reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated."

Then again, "vacation" may not quite describe this trip, as there are DUers to meet up with, neighborhood planners to see (who I've been emailing back and forth all year) and the like.

10. Europe!
Ok, not until July. But I'm going to Belgium, the UK, and the Netherlands. And possibly Switzerland. :bounce:

Oh, also in July I'm going to New Orleans. But that's for a work-related conference, so I'm not sure how much fun it will be.

14. Not a fun vacation- I going to visit family for the holidays
Fun does even come close. I am alone in the house with no car for days on end. Not that it matters because there is nothing to do there anyway. I am hoping to get some work done.

21. Depends on what you consider "fun"
I'm never happier than when I get to visit a completely new place, check in to a cute B & B or small inn, then promptly go bury my head in a microfilm reader for days at a time.

I'm researching my Smith family history for a book I'm writing (up to about 600 pages now). This coming spring I plan on heading to Western Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, outer Baltimore, and even possibly the Finger Lakes in NY if I can squeeze it in, checking out archives, and visiting with cousins to scan their photos, letters, and other family info.

I'm excited! More info for my book! :woohoo:

I'll probably go to countries such as Malaysia and Singapore

I may also go back to the US for a visit -but my plans here are exceedingly preliminary and depend on a number of factors and circumstances

23. US Virgin Islands for the holidays.
My family had a problem thia year when we started asking each other what we wanted. The answer was usually like "I dunno, anything." , "Nothing really." or something like "World peace.". Any way, one of my sisters maid the announcement that she didn't need any more "stuff" from under the tree. So, she said that she is more interested in "experiences", travel, trips, and trying new things. She would like to travel to Europe and Australia. She was in Italy for two weeks, this last spring and would like to see Spain or France in the coming year.

We all kind of decided to go to some tropical destination for the holidays (Xmas and New Year's Eve). St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands was the chosen place. We have rented a cottage and get on the plane to St. Thomas on the 23rd of this month. This is going to be nice. I get to do some fishing and everyone else gets a reprieve from the snow and cold with some time on the beach or in the water.

To do something like this is a pretty pricey affair. We have the cottage for 11 nights and it was over $5000.00 to rent it for the holidays, but that is also split three ways. Then there is flight which is about $850.00 for round trip. Then we do have to feed ourselves.

25. I know the BVI intimately, but not the USVI.
If you get a remote chance to go to, say, the Baths at Virgin Gorda, or even just to Tortola for shopping or something, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity. I've been to the BVI three times, cruising all around on a sailboat--they are damned gorgeous.

Have fun whatever you do, though. St John is supposed to be gorgeous. :)

29. YES!
Yes yes yes! I'm so excited! I usually don't go anywhere but home (Michigan) for family emergencies it seems - so any trips in the last number of years have been more "hang out in hospital" than "go out, relax and have fun."

I'm going to be gone for 5 days over NYE - (hopefully WA won't have any more interesting weather thrown at it in the next couple of weeks so I can make it to the airport) and it can't get here soon enough!!
