9. It is creepy, but apparently it has a benign backstory |
|
Apparently, Gilbert (not his real name) was starving half to death trying to get gigs and a record contract. His manager/agent offered to pay him to babysit his daughter just so the poor guy could eat. Gilbert had zero interest and was even insulted by this, but agreed to do it anyway. He and the little girl got along famously. When Gilbert finally hit the big time, he did this song as sort of a "thank you" and homage to that time.

It's okay, Peg. I just like the guitar and the flutes. Okay, okay, I like the whole damned song. :P

I've sat down to figure it out a number of times (chord wise) but have only had partial success. Really a clever progression, IMO, if even a bit to complex for me to get by ear.

5. I like it, but it has the saddest lyrics of any song I can think of. |
|
If you listen to the words, they're just heartbreaking.

That came out the year my mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer. We were told she had 2 months. Now my 25 yr old daughter may have cancer.

8. I used to love that song |
|
when I was young, and then as the years go by I don't know if I like it anymore but it gets 'stuck in my head' probably more than any other old - dumb - a.m. radio song. Back "In The Day" it was a good song. Now there's soooo much more songs to love, as I have more than 12 years experience hearing music . . . . . .
