1. I remember exactly where I was
In my used 1980 Toyota Corolla hatchback pulling out of a shopping mall in Eugene, Oregon during the summer after an unsuccessful sales call at a cookie store for my summer internship for University Directories. I flipped on the radio, and as I was pulling out of the parking lot, the radio said that "Stevie Ray Vaughan perished in a helicopter crash last night."

Then they played "Lenny".

3. I was on the 110 south, just entering downtown LA on my way to the old MGM studios in Culver city.
Every show I saw, he got better and better.

4. I had a similar experience with a man of music. It was the conductor
Guido Cantelli. He played with the Miami Symphony Orchestra at some point in 1954 or 1955. I took my Belgian boyfriend, who didn't know much about classical music, but loved jazz and popular music of the day. We sat close up to the stage and that conductor smiled and smiled -- it must have been at one of the big auditoriums in Miami.

I just fell in love with Guido Cantelli -- he was young, handsome, vivacious and a prodigy. I followed his career for one or two years -- and then, in 1956, was gone. I remember I had been out at the TV studio, or studying somewhere, and came back to my room. It was announced on television. The plane from Milan, Italy to New York City had crashed at Orly Airport on November 24, 1956, and Cantelli did not survive.

I cried all the next week. I still think of him today and remembered his name immediately, after fifty years. Same thing with the homosexual drama teacher from high school who committed suicide in May 1956. Two deaths in one year was very difficult for me in my teenage.

6. Yes, he was talented
I remember seeing him play Jimi Hendrix and his own tunes for $4 at bars in Lubbock, TX in the late 70's, early 80's.

and put his name in the search function. There's a whole bunch of videos their of SRV doing his magic. My personal favorite is of him doing Jimi Hendrix' "VooDoo Child" on 'Austin City Limits'. Soooooooo Awwwwweeeeesome!

I don't remember where I was when I heard he died. I do remember that not long before his death, I was in Saratoga, NY for some training for my employer. We were coming out of a restaurant when we heard his music in the distance. Sure sounded like a live performance!

Sad fact of history, true talent dies and false talent lives on.

Actually, nevermind. Hippywife stole my thunder.

13. Actually, the best video recording I've seen of him doing Voodoo Chile....
...is from the El Mocambo show, which, thank GOD, somebody had the presence of mind to film. The man was transcendant that night:
