So, is this the end of Battlestar Galactica? Being moved to Sunday night? |
|
ERspecially to move it so late.
It just seems to be Sci-Fi Channel saying "say goodbye to Battlestar, folks."

I think they got beat up on Friday at 9 p.m. Even geeks have social lives (or so we would like to think). But look at everything else on Fridays...not the best lineups.
I think Sunday night is a good place to be.

2. We just need to rearrange society to accommodate the new schedule |

Sunday is the new Friday!

5. Don't you think more people are home on Sunday nights? |
|
I mean everyone thinks I am nuts not to go out on Friday night with them because of a TeeVee show.
And no, I don't have TiVo, can't set my VCR, etc. and that is besides the point. They want a time slot where they can excel, not just hold their own.

8. Some of us go to church on Sunday night |
|
Actually, it's a group of us who have drinks and talk politics, but we do it religiously so we call it church. Thank gods for TIVO!

3. SciFi has gotten weird since they were bought by NBC's parent company |
|
The first thing they did was cancel Stargate SG-1...now they're playing shows that also air on network TV.
Either way, I don't think it's a good thing. :(

|
BSG is only three. I think SG 1 is played out that is why they launched Atlantis.

11. Oh, I think SG1 has jumped the shark - and back- several times |
|
 It's still one of my favorite shows ever. I hate to see it go. Atlantis is okay.

and NBCU has nothing to do with its cancellation. MGM decided to stop making it.

really go with the show. What are they going to do when they find Earth?

how long the story arc was intended to be? Three years is pretty short.

23. They didn't have an arc to start with |
|
It was supposed to be just the mini-series and that was it. Maybe they have an arc mapped out now (I can't recall for sure from the interviews I've read) I think they have some idea from season to season but I don't think they have an overall plan.

10. There's this kid named "Boxie" see and he had a pet Dagget.... |
|
...and that show took a quick and well deserved nosedive. I hope we get at least another season before finding Earth. Might be a cool twist if when they do find Earth it is an Earth of the far future. One derelect of humans yet with plenty of decaying advanced tech.

during the pilot and they had the "Boxie-esque" kid...thank God it was just a nod to the old show. A kid like that would make me root for the Cylons.

How long was Voyager (from Star Trek: Voyager) trying to get home? Didn't they last at least 5 seasons?

25. There's a whole galaxy to explore |
|
figuratively and literally.
They could forever be looking for Earth or if they do find it there's still lots of possible stories. And this team could probably do a good job of it.

There are too many dedicated fans. They probably needed a better Sunday night lineup or thought they could attract more new viewers then.

15. Not only is TiVo my friend, |
|
I'm hoping that Pennsylvania eventually allows human/electronics marriage - it's given me more enjoyment than my ex during the last several years of our relationship.
Eventually we'll figure out how to create a human/TiVo hybrid and we'll call him TommyTiVo or TiVoO depending on the offspring's gender.
That said, I just watched yesterday's episode (dutifully recorded by my TiVo) and actually cheered the fact that it's now going to be on Sunday nights at 10:00 - I'll be able to start watching at 10:20 and zip through the commercials nicely and hit the pillow at 11:10.
I also screamed at the three most awful words in the world: "to be continued"

They routinely shift shows around. Even the crudest VHS recorder lets you time shift. There are at least some new BSGs in the can, ready to deploy in January. I don't think they'll just little dibble into oblivion the way the old school Battlestar did. I am concerned about the Sci Fi Channel, however. I feel it has lost its way. Indeed it has been polluted by Professional Wrestling. (Here's a clue for NBC: we don't watch Sci Fi so we can see "sport".) It's been declining for a while. They ran Law and Order earlier this year. And they've been plastering animated commercial banners over the entertainment since 2002. Fear not fellow nerds. I have calculated that an RTN style Classic Sci Fi Channel could step in with a six hour block of classic sci fi every day for six months without a re run. Perhaps I'll do the job myself. Anyone else want to play?

18. On a cable network? No. |
|
It has more to do, in my guesstimate, with the season end of Dr. Who than anything else. It's merely a programming move - it is one of the more popular shows on television.

20. I'm more likely to be awake Sunday night at 10 than Friday at 9pm |
|
Now that I'm old (40), I find myself dozing off in the middle of Galactica on Friday nights due to the long work week leaving me tired by the time it gets to be 9:30 or so on Friday night. Then, I end up re-watching it all on Saturday morning on my DVR.
On Sundays, I'm often up until 11 or 11:15pm anyhow.
So, no big difference for me.
