Holy ZEUS!!!1 Just found out my phone calls can be picked up by WIRELESS
receivers. Somebody recited back to me my ENTIRE, CHATTY, PERSONAL phone conversation to me. At first I thought they had picked up the other phone. I was FLOORED when they finally told me the whole thing was pouring out of the SPEAKERS on a wireless receiver.

Can anything fix it? Like changing channels on the phone, or whatever?

1. Depends on what kind of phone, is it an old one, is it in the 49mhz or 900mhz ranges?

Check out this article for a little bit better detail.

6. Thanks for the article. Am sending the dude an e-mail. My
phone's tech support is closed weekends. I'm lwliest of low-tech, so I don't grok much of the article. Thanks again.

3. That is how Rep. BONER and Delay were caught
in a phone conversation strategizing( huh?) how to circumvent punishment coming down the pike. Jim McDermott(D, Wa) was provided the conversation unsolicited and he went public with it. BONER sued, so far the ethically-lapsed Republican minority leader is awaiting appeals results to see if his illegal and unethical activity gets him a civil penalty from McDermott.

4. I can remember catching bits and pieces of my neighbor's phone calls
on the baby monitor. I could usually just switch the channel and it would stop.

5. I knew a guy who eavesdropped on neighbors phone calls.
He would listen to what people were saying on their cordless phones. I had a bit of a debate with him about the ethics/legality of doing it. He was living in a large apartment complex at the time. I told him it was pretty low, he claimed it was on public airwaves. BTW- he ONLY uses a cord type phone.

7. Here's some info on both older and newer phones:
http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs2-wire.htm

Now that I know about security codes with these types of new phones I need to go check my own out.

Your story reminds me of something that happened probably close to 30 yrs ago now. We had one of those console type stereos..kept plugged in of course, but it wasn't turned on. DH was working the night shift and I was alone and suddenly heard male voices in my living room. Scared the s#it out of me. I finally discovered the voices were coming through the speakers of the stereo. Somehow it was picking up CB or Ham radio type transmissions. It didn't last long..maybe a week or so and then it never happened again.

8. Thanks for the link.
It says, "Cordless phones that operate on the higher frequencies (900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, or 5.8 GHz pronounced “megahertz” and “gigahertz”) are more secure, especially if they use digital spread spectrum technology and scramble the signal."

But clearly, MY 5.8 GHz is not secure. The product booklet doesn't mention "spread specturm technology".

9. Does it mention anywhere in your booklet about the security code?
I'm really curious now about the security of these things.

10. About 15 years ago
I found out my then-new coreless phone was broadcasting over the loud speakers at the church around the corner from me.

And yes, it was because they heard me talking to someone during a service.
