My six-year old is singing Johnny Cash.
More specifically, "Ring Of Fire". He's also been quoting Monty Python at me all day.

Do I have the coolest freaking kid on the planet or what? :grouphug:

3. Yes! I'm so proud.
The Monty Python thing is HILARIOUS. He *loves* Holy Grail. He's been walking around all day going "Nee!" at me, demanding shrubbery, and asking me endlessly "WHAT...is your name? WHAT...is your quest? WHAT...is your favorite color?!"

And now he's singing Johnny Cash.

I tell you, I'm feeling pretty darned good about the world at the moment. :applause:

2. Just don't let him hear "Hurt".
That one is beautiful but brutal.

All of Cash's anger, bitterness and self-loathing are on display there. It moves me to tears when I hear it or see the video. It's the musings of a broken old man just before the final curtain.

4. He prefers songs that are more upbeat.
He's not nearly old enough to appreciate sadness and melancholy yet.

He's cool, but he's still only in first grade. ;)

I'm exceedingly glad that my little guy seems to find that part uninteresting and doesn't pay much attention to it.

13. It was a hall-of-fame parenting moment
"It means kissing, honey. Gross, huh?"

"Yes, daddy, kissing is gross."

14. OMG--if I had only known about the Monty Python thing--
my kids are fanatical!!! My daughter just bought the black knight, complete with removable arms and legs, to give to her secret santa person at school.

15. Oooooo! *want want*
Where on earth did you find such a thing?? I've never seen any Monty Python toys.

Hang on--let me dig around. There is an incredibly cute picture of my son "officiating" a bout between two SCA fighter knights, complete with striped pole. LAY ON! xD

16. Here they are:
I couldn't find the one of the actual bout, but here are some taken from a fighter practice we attended one night last summer.

Brendan facing off with his trusty plastic home-made sword.

Brendan learning how to referee a fight.

Brendan hamming it up for the camera with said trusty home-made sword. :)

The guy helping him hold the pole is the leader of a local SCA "clan" who wants Brendan to join his youth program. We're thinking about it, but the SCA is a pretty big time commitment, and with school and work--we aren't sure if we'll be able to manage it. But he definitely loves anything to do with knights and swords and such. :)
