I'm not religious, and dislike most Christmas music, but I get a frisson whenever I hear
"O come O come Emmanuel" played on a pipe organ in a church, or on a CD that I have where it's played on a hurdy-gurdy with a TERRIFIC acoustic guitar backup.

2. Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians used to sing that in the manner of
a Gregorian chant. It sounded so cool.

4. Fred Waring, who did indeed invent the Waring Blendor. That's right, "Blendor,"

not "Blender." There's your trivia for tonight, and aren't you glad you learned it?

5. How about the Coventry Carol?
(Lully, Lullay, Thou Little Tiny Child)
That one is great especially in a live performance.

7. Check out this one

Caroline is a friend of mine who sings sacred hymns and Christmas carols in the Celtic style. Her version of Amazing Grace is guaranteed to wreck you.

I usually can't stand the stuff, but she's really amazing.

if she does, I'm buying one of each. Right now.

9. She's on iTunes, actually
Her site has purchase information too: http://www.radioangel.com/albums.shtml

On top of that, she's one of those *real* christians who really cares about people and who is at least as liberal as I am. I'm very fortunate to have met her at all - she signed up for one of my software classes and we've been friends ever since.

Her artwork is unreal too: http://www.carolinefurlong.com/

I just ordered her Christmas cd and I don't even have a cd player! It's not very often one comes across a voice like that. Thanks so much for posting this!

11. I had to look that one up ...
But now that I know what it means ...

I get a "frizz on" from that song on Joan Baez' "Noel" album. The whole CD is great.

Regards.

16. It's that little shiver that goes up your spine....from whatever.
Can be from music, can be from the touch of another, can be from a DU post that reaches deep into you...

yes, I'm THAT behind the times! :D

They are white and have curly hair and funny big heads on little bodies. Quite hilarious
actually. I watch dog shows a lot because they are so sweet and innocent and harmless. Unlike a lot of other TV.

We have an American Eskimo and I always watch for them - they never win though.

17. Five year old grandson is hooked on Little Drummer Boy this year
after I explained the meaning of the song to him. He looked at me with his big blue eyes and said, "I would give the poor little boy some of my toys and our tv and our car." Aww, I thought. Sweetly he went on to say, "And then we could go to the store and get all new stuff."

21. I had a moment like that three years ago. I set up the video camera on a tripod, and
turned it on, then went to eat breakfast because I knew the tape would last for an hour and cover us opening the presents.

Later, I saw that the Little Guy had sneaked into the family room and checked out all the stockings hanging from the mantel. He noticed that my stocking was empty, and said out loud, "this isn't good." Then he disappeared, to return a few minutes later with one of his Hot Wheels cars, wrapped up in a sheet of notebook paper, which he placed carefully in my stocking.

Moments like that tell why it's so great to have kids.

23. Oh wow, how great is it that you were able to capture and observe
that precious moment! And that very second, you must have known that he was going to grow up to be a good person.

22. You might like the
Anonymous Four. They have a beautiful Christmas album. They specialize in medieval choral
music. It's hauntingly beautiful. Frisson-worthy, IMO.

And no, I don't know how to post that either. :silly:

25. In a different context, that song would be depraved... I know,
let's send it to that washed up 80s "band" known as "Poison" and see if they can redo it.
