Run, don't walk and see "Dreamgirls" !!!
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 09:23 PM by ronnykmarshall
Holy cow!!! It's fan-fucking-tastic!!!! I just got home. Saw it at the Cinerama Dome here in Hollywoods. Jennifer Hudson is a STAR!! She steals this movie. Beyonce is great as well. She sang this new song (she wrote it) called "Listen" and Miss Thang best be getting an Oscar for best song and J-Hud better get the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well or there will be HELL to pay. Jennifer had that crowd in the palm of her hand. I (yes I am a drama queen) and many others gave her a big ass standing ovulation when she sang "And I'm Telling You".

OH MY GOD !!!!!

This is best movie I've seen in a LONG time!!!

And Eddie Murphy and wonderful as well. And yes, I already bought the soundtrack.

2. I know nothing about the movie.
Is it based on a real singing group?

Love your enthusiasm...will now have to go see it!

4. Any good car chases in it?
Shooting? Big explosions (of a non-emotional nature)? A renegade cop who breaks all the rules but gets results? A cyborg killing machine? A quest across time for a legendary artifact said to hold the key to life itself? Dancing penguins?

If not, I may have to pass.

6. I saw "2001: A Space Odyssey" at that same theater in 1973. What a theater.
Jennifer Hudson was excellent on "American Idol" and she sang, "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Leaving" on that show. It appears she has lost a lot of weight since those days. I'm glad she is finally making it big.

7. I've heard a lot of good things about it, and about Hudson
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 10:41 PM by Flaxbee
Have also heard that Beyonce is a tad bit pissed that Hudson is getting such rave reviews (when B's have been only lukewarm). Though some say it's Beyonce's pushy dad who's throwing hissy fits, not B herself...

edited for clarity

8. Beyonce's dad reminds me of Berry Gordy.
He seems to push too hard when it's not needed.

Beyonce is beautiful in this film. She's a good actress and is stunning to watch on screen. But J-Hud is really the star of this film.

10. This family is going
We love Broadway and I already purchase this CD for my teenaged daughter. Mom, might be stealing it back. We are going the day after Christmas. It's nice to hear good things about this movie.
Good for Jennifer Hudson too. Losing American Idol might be the best damn thing that happened to her.

11. You got that right.
I'm sure Simon and Co are kicking themselves in the ass right now.

J-Hud will be the biggest star out of all the "Idols".

A HAPPY tear jerker. I've got the sound track and we BLASTED it in car on the way out.

I'm off to do m' Christmas shopping and the girls are coming along for the ride today.

14. It was the first Broadway show I ever saw...
back in 1983. Jennifer Holliday.

I am afraid the movie will not live up to that!

16. It DOES live up to the stage production.
It's rare that a musical can cross over to the screen. This one does. I was talking to my neighboor in the hall this morning and she saw the movie at a screening at Paramount and the buzz is that this IS the film to beat at the Oscars. "Chicago" was great as a film as well as the stage.

Go see this. If you have the chance since you're in LA, get tickets to see it at the Cinerama Dome. I think having a real movie crowd made this an experience more than just going to the "picture show".

I really think you'll love it.

17. Glad you loved it, but I HATE musicals.
So I guess I won't be seeing it. And I took a chance with "Chicago" because I liked some of the music in it (which is usually not the case for 'showtunes'). But I still hated it. I even got annoyed by the music, which I should have enjoyed.

I've been meaning to see it - just so busy I haven't done it yet. BUT I was recently given some movie passes so maybe this week...

I really liked Jennifer on Idol and was glad to see the rave reviews she's been getting for this movie.

we're hoping to go sometime before Christmas! I love 'And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going', and loved how Jennifer Holliday performed it. I will be anxiously waiting for Jennifer Hudson's version....

22. Listening to J-Hud right now ...
For the about 100th time.

What I really hope happens.

I want Jennifer Hudson to win the Golden Globe and the Oscar. I would that she would thank of course Florence Ballard ..... who is "Effie" and Jenifer Holiday who MADE that role on Broadway. But that's just me. I have a big ass list of peeps when I win my Oscar. Y'all part of that list so hang tight.

21. I have a strict policy against seeing anything with Beyonce Knowles in it.
Her ego wouldn't even fit in the theatre.
