Is it too late to put up a Christmas tree?
Actually, is it too late to put up a tree around Wednesday?

1. Considering that I leave mine up for a few weeks after Christmas,
no. I don't have mine up yet, either.

2. Too late
is the week AFTER Christmas.

Mine is not up yet and I know several families who have traditionally put the tree up on Christmas eve.

4. The best time is around the middle of August.
But you can probably slide by. I know they're getting strict this year, but they've outsourced the Tannenbaum Polizei, who aren't quite up to scratch.

:hi:

Seriously, it doesn't matter. It's your holiday, so do what you want and the hell with anyone else's schedule.

17. One of my mom's neighbors used to get steamed because
she left her lights up for months.

And, yes, she did it on purpose to bug him.

16. How lovely.
My little guy is atop the kitchen table with two presents and two cats underneath. I'd snap a pix but don't want to rouse the troops.

It's about a foot tall and will be planted after Jan 6 in our neighborhood park. :)

11. Back in the old days trees often went up on Xmas eve
or the week of Xmas. Fire hazard you know. We start Xmas stuff so early now soo the trees will be going up on Nov.1.

12. We used to wait until Dec. 24
It was tradition.

In fact, originally, didn't Santa even bring it? It was not even up as far as the kids were concerned until Christmas morning.

19. Santa brought our tree. We'd go to bed with the living room all normal and
come down to twinkling lights and glittering ornaments and presents stacked atop of each other. It was magical.

14. On the contrary, you would be following tradition more closely
Trees are not "supposed to" go up until Xmas Eve.

22. Absolutely not- any time up to Christmas Eve is fine
In fact my mother always used to say that the "correct" (or traditional) custom was to put up the tree on Christmas Eve and take it down on Twelfth Night.

Last year we put up ours 2 weeks before Christmas and even though I watered it regularly it was dead and dry by New Years Day and I had to get rid of it. This year we put up our tree yesterday so hopefully it will stay alive until Twelfth Night.
