Radio Lady Discusses: Are you dreaming of a "Black Christmas"? Film opens 12/25/06 Christmas Day!
Edited on Sun Dec-17-06 04:34 PM by Radio_Lady
Tired of visiting with relatives and stuffing yourself with food and drink? Looking for blood in the afternoon on Christmas Day? Have they got a movie for you!

It's "Black Christmas" starring nobody I know of, a remake of the 1974 film which I must have also missed.

At the outset, I must tell you I know about as much as you do about this movie. (I assume that is NOTHING.) It is a horror/thriller film, scheduled to open on December 25, and I'm not making this up.

As far as I know, there was no press screening scheduled for this film. This always makes us reviewers wonder a little whether the film is just too awful for humans to view, or so wonderful that the filmmakers don't want us or need us to potentially snuff out (pun intended!)any of the fabulous interest in their movie.

So, if you wish, peck around these websites for the next few days and report back with what you learn.

2. I saw the original when

it first came out. It was pretty scary for back in the early 70's.

4.  Do you plan to see this one? Is it in questionable taste to bring this out on Christmas day?
I am totally clueless on both of these films. Perhaps that's what the studio wanted?

I'll be spending Christmas Day entertaining children and adults who are in transition from homelessness in Washington County, Oregon. I bring over dolls and toys, as well as food for the people children living in a halfway house.

"Black Christmas" and blood letting!

What a way to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace!

7. I think the first one
came out around Christmas time. No, I'm not planning on going to see it. I might see it when it comes on PPV.

3. Actually, I do know a couple of the actors in it!
Lacey Chabert was one of the kids in that TV show, "Party of Five." She's been in lots of things, including the movie "Mean Girls." Andrea Martin is from "SCTV" and she's also been in lots of stuff. Interestingly, Martin was also in the original "Black Christmas," which incidentally did have several well-known actors in it. They included Olivia Hussey (who was in the popular "Romeo & Juliet" in 1968), Margot Kidder, John Saxon, and Keir Dullea.

The movie sounds dreadful to me, but in the interest of full disclosure, I will say that I hate horror movies.

5. I do remember the people from the first movie! The ones in this movie?
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 01:12 AM by Radio_Lady
Not really. In 1974, I was on the air live five days a week -- as well as raising five kids -- and had just a little time for the movies. Hubby can do horror movies, but not me.

The best satire of the horror genre was "Shaun of the Dead" which cracked me up completely. Very funny! I never saw "Dawn of the Dead," but got the idea completely.

9. to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, they release this?
i am a first amendment type all the way but this is plenty sick.
they're warming up a special place in hell for all involved in this.
who's going to see this on Christmas day?

"Thanks for dinner, GRandma!"
"Where are you going, kids? Out for some sledding?"
"No, we're going to Black Christmas, the slasher film! See ya later!"
"Don't be late for church!"

10. My thoughts completely. As noted, there were no press invites to this movie.
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 07:16 PM by Radio_Lady
As far as I know, it's opening with little or no fanfare.

But, of course, I could be wrong. Maybe it was screened at prisons and police stations... or schools for the advancement of aggressive beasties age 18 to 35. That leaves me out! :sarcasm:

11. I've been seeing ads for it
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 08:59 PM by Generator
Mostly during the Colbert/Stewart hours. I think it's for the hipster younguns. I can't even stand to watch a CSI nor would I want to-so the housewife with children market is appalled, but damn I can appreciate how twisted the concept is in it's uber sick way. Christmas day! Good place to take your serial killer friends for a gift, I would guess.

12. The original wasn't half bad.
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 09:04 PM by Bornaginhooligan
It wasn't half good either, but it wasn't half bad.

There was another remake of basically the same plot just a couple of months ago. The one about the tired old urban legend about the babysitter who gets threatening phone calls, and then the police trace the calls and it turns out it's coming from the attic. They gave away the surprise in the trailer for that one. What's the deal with bad horror movies lately? I was in the video store recently and on every shelf of the "new releases" section there were whole rows devoted to straight to DVD horror movies, all of them utter shite.
