Ok, Hello, I'm looking to move on a fixed income.. |
|
I have a fixed income, slightly over 1100$ per month. I want to move to another country that is warm and I would like to be on the beach.. Living like a king on my income would be a bonus.. Any thoughts about a location?

1. Costa Rica came to mind. |
|
It may not be the bargain it once was, though.

8. CR is unlikely-- it's actually a pretty expensive CA nation.... |

Look into Guatemala or Nicaragua. Or, as you suggested, east asia. I don't have any experience there, so I can't advise. The two most expensive central American nations are probably Costa Rica and Belize.

4. Tell everyone in your new home you're Canadian. |
|
Get little Canadian flag stickers to put on your luggage, your car, etc.
Oh--and I heard Spain is a good, cheap place for gringos to live. Assuming you know or will learn the language.

that you cannot buy property in Mexico unless you are 60% . or invest 60%? That's a good thought.

...and gringos can't have any by law. the citizenry can purchase, but it's more like renting for them and you have to rent from them.

The government does not "own" all of Mexico. And foreigners can buy land there, although they need to follow specific procedures.

get this .. to move from Oklahoma! to Costa Rico (if I recall correctly. I'm not very bright on geography). They had to have $10,000 in the bank before they would be allowed to move into the country.
If I was going to take off for parts unknown, give me a sailor with a nice boat. Then we can go down under. Morea. French Polynesia. Live on a volcano. Clothing optional.

I get paid wherever I am. I might as well move someplace where I could improve my standard of living. I'm thinking about East Asia or Costa Rica.

Taigon? Asia. He loved it. You're probably going to live in a smaller house though. Ok?
Just read post below. #11. Thailand. He said he rented a place for a month for $300. And you can't beat the food. I love Thai food.

11. How about Thailand? My brother's lived there for ten years and loves it. |
|
He pays 8500 bhat(about $225) for a small apartment, bills and internet connection paid for,in Bangkok.
The medical care is quite good and considerably cheaper than the US. For $1100 you should be able to live comfortably over there.
I may go there when I retire myself. My brother didn't go there to retire, though. He married a Thai girl.

I've visited twice and loved it; and also saw many older Americans living there as well and enjoying it.

I've been investigating a similar move. There are several great Costa Rican forums. To take up permanent residency, Costa Rica and Belize require depositing $20,000 in a local bank to insure you won't be a pauper. Or you have to leave and return every 6 months. Good Luck to all ex-patriots.
