Poll question: Should I Be Insulted?
When the iTunes "Just for You" Recommendation Engine tells me that, according to my past musical purchases, I should be really interested in Toad the Wet Sprocket? I feel a bit insulted, but should I?

1. Have you ever listened to Toad the Wet Sprocket?
Try the album "Pale" and call me in the morning.

5. unless something is patently offensive
it is wrong to be insulted where no insult was meant.

However, to me 'marketing' is very close to patently offensive. I will tell you when I want to buy something and what I want to buy. I have not asked for any recommendations.

"Toad the wet sprocket' also seems like a jejune or bizarre enough name to come very close to patently offensive, mostly because I am not real clear on what a sprocket is. I mean who uses that word instead of saying 'gear tooth' or something clearer? Sprocket? Sprocket? And what does this have to do with Toads. Is this some kind of inside engineering joke having to do with toadies?

But who knows? I might like them if I ever listened to them. Maybe, but I doubt it.
