Pop. approximately 12,500 (at the time). Good times (hahahahahaha). Bullwinkle925 calls it "Peyton Place." Everyone knew everyone else's business. Nosy neighbor stood on the street corner stopping traffic the day my dad died to spread the news. It's fun to drive through and be nostalgic about, but I'm glad I got out.

Peyton Place for sure!! I moved to the SF Bay Area over 30 years ago. I flew my brother out once to visit - we went to a local Mall and ate in a 'Food Court'. After about 30 min. he said, "I don't know how you can stand it - we've been here a half-hour and you haven't seen anyone you know YET." I answered, "That's the beauty of it"!!

it was the considerably less fancy part of Fairfield over by the Bridgeport line, but still, quite nice. And yes, a local band did have a song called "I Don't Want to Live in Bridgeport", :P but our street, Clinton Avenue, was pleasant, wide, tree-lined, and lined with stately triple-deckers set well back from the street, many of which (including ours) had professional offices on the ground floor, so there!

I think his parents had ants in their pants! Edited to add that some of the moving was college related. But parents could have been on the lam????

Perhaps one of the most boring places in the univers to a teenager, unless you are an avid reader because there is a lot of time to read!!! Which I did.
But it is a pretty little town, and I enjoy visiting there even though I am a city gal at heart.

I actually lived on a mountain in a little town that is a suburb of Chattanooga. I had an incredible nighttime view of the city lights from my bedroom window. It was a wonderful place to grow up and it was only a 15 minute drive to downtown Chattanooga from the mountain. We also had a big lake house in Soddy Daisy on Lake Chickmaugua (a huge TVA lake formed by damming the Tennessee River back in the 1930s). We had three boats and I spent all summer swimming, fishing, boating and water skiing with my best friend James and my siblings and friends. Great times! :)

1969-72, my preschool years. 1969 was when Walter Cronkite famously reported that Chattanooga had the worst air quality of every city in the US. DuPont ran the town, plus there was a boiler factory which emitted some major crap in the air. It has cleaned up quite considerably since, but I sure wonder what the hell I was breathing as a toddler, lol.
My first major memories in life are of the area, and although I was not born there, my roots in TN run deep, more than 200 years straight. :-)

which shall remain nameless because my parents still live there. But it's a tiny town (500ish people) located relatively near both Lincoln and Omaha.

96. Eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It was a great place then. But not now. |
|
Now it's fucking wall-to-wall office buildings, chain restaurants, office "parks," traffic, and yuppie Mc Mansion developments.
So depressing that I rarely go back there.

112. Exactly 30 years after I was there |
|
I was there from 1959 to 1970; later grade school through two years at North Central College.
I have been back for several high school and college reunions; the earliest was in 1988 and the last was in 2000.
The town is quite a bit bigger than it was when I lived there. It was still a small town when I first moved there; it started its growth then and has been growing since.
