Help! I need an Xmas present for my wife!
Ok, the one present she had expressed interest in fell through. Now I am stuck. She never gives any hints, EVER. There's no budget for jewelry. Clothes are tough since she needs to try 'em on after having two kids, since she nows weighs less than she did pre-pregnancy (breastfeeding burns mega-calories).

She already has a massage gift certificate left over from her b-day. Can anyone suggest a present for a stay-at-home mom??

help!

4. ha ha
Yeah, a barely sleeping 8 month old and a tightly wound, lightly sleeping 3 year old frequently complicates, um, adult activities...

9. there's a great Dana Carvey stand up- piece on that very topic -
it's hysterical.

Time out alone would be my vote. Or one of those really cuddly bathrobes that totally enfold you (can't think of what they are called) and some nice soothing bathsalts.

Kidding.

What does she like to do when she's not doing her 24 hour a day job as a mom?

7. How about a cleaning service
to come in and do a major clean up, bathrooms, windows, oven, etc. Any day I don't have to do housework is a gift, and not having to do the big scrubbing, and washing would be heaven. If my spouse gave me that for even one day, I'd be thrilled.

8. Gift certificates to a beauty salon & her favorite clothing store
Plus a day of babysitting services. She can spend the day getting her hair done, getting a massage & shopping.

When I was stay at home mom a day to myself was a nice gift. A day to myself being pampered was a wonderful gift.

11. Try gifts.com
ts.com

Cool site set up to help you narrow down the who and the varied interests.

I used it to find gifts for my hard-to-buy-for son, and it also gave me other gift-giving ideas.

14. here's my advice...
...and it has always served me very well. Give a person something that reinforces the best self they always dream they are. What was her dream for herself? A painter? A poet? An athlete? Find something that lets her know that you see validate that part of her still. She's not just the mom who needs housecleaning (which hammers home the idea that the house is a big burden). She's a dreamer of some dream. Honor that.

15. My dad has always given my mother cash for Christmas.
It works great for both of them. He doesn't have to shop, and she hits the post-Christmas sales at her favorite stores, gets exactly what she wants, and gets twice as much bang for the buck. Maybe you can get her some kind of a small, thoughtful gift and give her the rest in cash or gift certificates?

17. A gift card
for her favorite restaurant and another one for her favorite store. Call it a shopping spree with lunch.

When in doubt, work from the head down with jewelry. Ear rings one year, a necklace the next, a bracelet after that, then a ring. You can get a nice piece of jewelry (no diamonds) this time of year with all the 50% off sales they are having now.
