HELP DU...I have had a migraine since Friday |
|
I don't want to go to the ER because I'll have to wait five to six hours...and my head is POUNDING...
About ten minutes ago I took four Tylenol PMs which I hope will help me sleep. Until now I've not taken anything last night.
Yes I have imitrex and have taken two of them over the weekend...they are like gold (only nine come in a prescription and I may need some this weekend when I visit my family)
So, what do you, DUer's who suffer from migraines, do to get rid of the full scale bangaroos?

2. I don't get them enough to get Imitrex |
|
But I've found that Excedrin migraine works well and it's cheap. Works for both me and hubby.

Except it sometimes make you feel worse for a while; also it can make the headache rebound.
For pain, Vicodin or Aleve. I think Aleve works better than the other over the counter drugs.
Other stuff: Lots of sleep in a dark room. Don't get dehydrated, keep drinking water. I've used frozen vegetables for an ice pack- snow peas will really conform to your head.
I've always found that if you vomit in the ER, they will move you up in the triage line.
Once at the ER, there's nothing like Demeral. Compazine is ICKY.

8. Excedrine Migraine works for me too. |
|
Before it came out I took Fiorinal (sp?) but found that the EM works just as well, with less spacey feeling, and it's a lot less expensive. Was not too fond of Imitrex, but I only tried it once.

9. My doc told me to take alieve with the imitrex |
|
I also hear that once a migraine starts, caffeine can help. It is strange, because that is a trigger.

Do I recall correctly that imitrex needs to be taken before onset of pain? I know that there are different classes of migraine meds, and one needs to be taken before, and one needs to be taken after. Maybe imitrex is the one you take after, now that I'm thinking about it.
I get the aura, so I always know about 20 minutes in advance, which is when I like to get whatever meds into me that I need, and I think I tried using imitrex this way and then later when I told the doc that imitrex doesn't work for me, he said, no, you have to wait until the pain starts before you take it.
I said ... uh... yeah, that's not gonna work for me...
So, I take Excedrin PM immediately and get into a bed in a dark room and try to fall asleep before it hits.
I think that cafergot has worked for me in the past
I hate migraines!!!
