1. Sorta answers the whole "weakest link" question, eh?
"Mounds" is a funny word, nonetheless.

4. It's a distinction that the manufacturer must have thought...
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 06:47 PM by Kutjara
...sufficiently ambiguous back in the 70s to include a clarification in their jingle:

Sometimes you feel like a nut.
Sometimes you don't.
Peter Paul Almond Joy has nuts.
Peter Paul Mound don't.

Not, perhaps, the most catchy jingle in advertising history, but it's stuck in my head for over 30 years.

5. I'd have gone with Almond Joy just because it had "Almond" in the name
but asked the question in a different way and I'd have never known "Mounds" didn't.

Questions shouldn't be so based upon commercial bullshit, it's part of the reason why we're so behind the rest of the world.

/rant off

7. "Commercial bullshit" or not, one would assume a reasonable person...
could figure out that the Almond Joy might have almonds in it, given a choice involving only two possible answers.

8. I can actually see how this would happen.
The almonds in Almond Joy make little mounds on the top, so I can see blurting that out. IRRC, it's the kind of show where you have a very limited amount of time to answer.

CocoNUT in it. :eyes:

That line - "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't" - was in some movie (with the Wayan brothers??) referring to a characters seemingly bi-orientation - it was hysterical.

14. That was the jingle Peter Paul used in the 70s...
...to differentiate between their two products. It's just about the worst jingle ever.

See my post above for the full lyrics.

15. PSA from the Department of Pedantry.
Coconuts aren't nuts. They are a type of dry fruit, known as a drupe.

17. Hmmm. I see what you mean. Wikipedia says an almond is...
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 08:05 PM by Kutjara
...the seed-kernel of the almond fruit. So the correct answer would have been, "neither of them."

Or maybe "both of them," since just about every product says "may contain nuts" these days.

20. How about this answer:
on "Family Feud"

Richard Dawson: "In what month do most women begin to show signs of their pregnancy?"

Contestant: "September!"
