Something weird just happened
I don't mean to gross anyone out. I got off work late, picked up a salad at MacDonalds, got home and began to eat and found a huge grasshopper in it. (dead of course)

I called the restaurant and told them. They said to bring it by and they would give me a free meal (no thanks, I'm done with fast food for a while).

Should I report it to the health department?

9. I think so
Didn't they say the e coli outbreak was because the produce farms are processing food out in the fields these days instead of taking it to buildings for washing and packaging?

It may pay to look closer at produce these days.

6. I'd call the health dept
mainly to get it on record. It was probably mixed in with the pre-processed produce, not on the store end. IMHO every single time anything with food happens we need to have a public snork. Hopefully will force congress to not only put the number of inspectors we used to have out there but maybe even increase it even more than that.

I'd also call the McD's 800# and let them know so they can look at their production system. They do have their own growers and processors.

14. I think I will
Every week its another news report on bad produce and food processing. There's no real food inspection anymore.

19. for what it's worth, I wouldn't worry about it....
I know people freak out about insects, and some are worth freaking out about, but it's really unlikely that a grasshopper could effect your food in any serious way. They like salad too. That's about the extent of it. BTW, is THAT the grasshopper? That's a particularly cool one, if so....

21. I once got
a dragonfly in my Family-size Fries from A&W. It happens. Damn bugs fry around hit the heat lamps or whatever and instantly dead. They asked if I wanted more fries...we declined. I was good natured about it. This was a long time ago and I didn't believe it was deliberate. Of course nowadays who the hell knows.

When I worked at McDonald's the salads were made there. I don't know if they still do that or not. I'm assuming it was in the bag of salad mix during production and then hand packed into the salad containers.

I don't blame you for being upset.

27. You have to expect that if you order the grasshopper salad
Because if you had ordered a side salad, that would have been gross beyond belief.
